The trick is simple: just don’t buy smart cars
What is going on? I’ve now seen two of this exact joke on Lemmy but one is this picture and the other is a video of a different dude in a different car with a different ad in the windshield.
Drink two Mountain Dew to enable braking.
We’re sorry, we detected insincerity when you said “yum, that was refreshing!” For your safety, all vehicle control functions have been disabled. Please try again in 60 seconds
ERROR: Yellow Mellow preference detected. Proceeding to Mountain Dew Education Institute. Nissan thanks you for you cooperation
They already got mine so I have to pay a subscription to big oil or they disable my car
“Post a selfy with your delicious bag of McD’s and the hashtag #imlovinit to receive 20 minutes of ad-free windshield time! Ba da ba ba baaa”
My car keeps saying “time for a McDonald’s break!” and pulling into the drive-through. I’ve been here for five hours, please send help!
Plot twist: In 2050, McDonald’s restaurants no longer exist, and nobody eats there anymore. However, the company still generates $66B per year with their “ad free” subscription model.
RESUME VIEWING
If yew don’t eat Fig Newtons than fuck yew.
I welcome the new age of edgyrunners. Hacking(mostly script kiddy stuff but still) and modding is getting really popular.
Fuck, I can actually foresee McDonald’s advertisements being holographic projected into the bottom corner of your windshield. It’s not even much worse than what car companies are already doing with your car.
There is never enough ads.

They’ll start suttle but get bigger and bigger every year

They know this, and that’s why they wait to do things like this until they know you have relatively little choice.
Not that you shouldn’t care, but it’s worth remembering the guiding hand of the market is not an all powerful weapon.
Indeed, without competition and regulation the free market doesn’t work, and never has.
The manufacturers are in Trusts, secretly cooperating on not competing and maximizing profit at the expense of consumers and product and service quality.
That said, we still shouldn’t buy their shit when possible, and to disable problematic things when possible, (which is a federal crime, introduced in the 90’s at the behest of CD companies/record companies, whereby any type of digital lock cannot be broken without suffering 4 years in federal prison.
a federal crime
I think most of us here know this, but the dmca broke the free market. Anyone who isn’t or has folks that aren’t (read time, 3 hours, including rabbit holes):
https://www.eff.org/pages/unintended-consequences-fifteen-years-under-dmca
This impacts the ability to fix or modify your own stuff, see Fulu, extend or enhance tools you already own, and repurpose items for things they can do but are not in the best interest of the company that sold them. Making it illegal to use a computer is akin to making it illegal to use a screwdriver.
This is why every car has a screen now. They were able to lock out any unauthorized customization, repair, replacement, etc because there was a “digital lock” somewhere in the process and use that to force first-party parts, service and software and get a reliable post-market revenue stream. Don’t want your car advertising to you on startup? Too bad - disabling that is a crime.
Especially as we head into an election moment in the US - reach out to candidates and ensure they are aware and know we are aware.
I’d also say we need more old school hackers and restorers, that is to say folks who can work on hardware. It may be illegal to crack some code but physically gutting something to spoof, hotwire, or bypass their shit software through entirely physical means works as a better long term method. Restoration and maintenance of old tech is a lot easier, half the time something is broken it’s either just a wire or the power being bad.
He’s lucky to have the window rolling subscription
He only paid for the rolling down. It’s 2 times the cost for rolling up. 3 times the cost of it’s raining.
I’ve got the Pay-Per-Roll™ formula, it’s cheaper because most people don’t actually roll that much so a sub with infinite rolling is a waste of money.
They’ll remove the à la carte pricing once they’ve lulled you in with it.
POV, huh.
POV: It’s 2050 and youve wedged your head between the passenger headrest and the door pillar
BEEP “Eyes are not on the road!”
(The word ‘road’ has the word ‘ad’ in it).
Please drink verification can.
Your POV subscription has also lapsed and you’re stuck in 3rd person view. If this subscription is not paid then you will be downgraded to top down (GTA1) view before finally going to the basic plan of text only console.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.Text only GTA would be… interesting.
Yes… a POV

My POV reading this post.
it’s seems that everyone uses lemmy on his phone.
Reddit killed 3rd party apps, but people still need somewhere to get memes while pooping.
Honestly I dont think the web ui is bad but stuff Like voyager is clearly superior
Only if the person paying the subscription isn’t the driver.
I’m still trying to figure out how it’s legal to have massive advertisements lining roadways specifically designed to distract drivers.
I think it was ford that submitted a patent for a camera that points forward, reads bilboards, then plays a video on your dash. I hate how shitty technology is being used all in the name of money and advertising.
Well never reach any kind of utopian future where things just work and technology is used for good. It’s not about helping and feeding the needy, it’s all about satisfying the wealthy. It’s a disgusting timeline, literal rapists and genocidal maniacs running countries.
Off subject, but I wonder if these UAP sightings by the air force and navy are optical illusions, perhaps projected onto windshields.
Because they were shown to be defying physics, it’s the least fantastical explanation I can think of that fits what is undeniably true, those that deny the facts as they are notwithstanding.
I’m convinced that most North American cryptids were just memorable encounters with an owl that may have had substances involved on the part of the observer. Optical illusions being the primary source of UFO sightings, not out of the question to me
