Thank you for your hard work, Godric. I managed to block so many tankies again!
I dont get how they get so sassy about something so trivial. There is even one calling this “racist”… i may laugh here about them, but tankies are scary
How are they so thin-skinned? You’d think tankies would have thick, armoured skin, like a… Well, like a … rhinoceros 🦏
How are they so thin-skinned?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_of_humiliation#Under_Xi_Jinping
Once they obtained enough clout, there is now this widespread belief among Mainlanders they have emerged from what they saw as a century of humiliation, now they see themselves above reproach, and so will object to any sort of what they perceive as debasement.
Mbappe is just one of the latest personalities who have to literally apologize to Mainland China, as the chunk of their income is much derived from whatever products and services they’re selling (or pandering) to the Mainlanders.
At this stage and no thanks to the United States whose capitalists offloaded manufacturing and even technological capability to the Middle Kingdom because cheaper labor and less oversight – and now Trump’s lunatic self-destructing regime changing much of the developing world – China is so much of a greater hegemonic capitalist power now that it has developed its own brand of “cancel culture” where some millions of Mainland Chinese who are well-to-do consumers but also nationalistic, can afford to vote with their wallets and thus humiliate anyone who dares to insult their country.
This is the Mainland China of Xi Jinping that can say no.
The encapsulation of Mao:
“If the worst came to the worst and half of mankind died [in nuclear war], the other half would remain while imperialism would be razed to the ground and the whole world would become socialist.”
Zapp Brannigan revolutionary with no plans beyond bravado. There was/is no universe where a nuclear holocaust ends in sunshine and roses instead of the (functionally) permanent crippling of the human race. That lack of critical thought is still infecting leftist conversation today: vastly underestimating the cost and implications of actions and relying on blind appeals to moral determinism.
50%? The number is probably way lower. Like 1%
No, no, you don’t understand. China is most free, best country. Please consult happy chart.

See? Bar is higher.
This isn’t what happened as far as I can tell. He just lost ads and sponsorships after calling Mao a dictator online. Is that what “some Chinese broadcasters” is supposed to mean?
If it can be destroyed by the truth, it should be destroyed by the truth

Mao was a rapist as bad as Trump.
Yep, kids too. And on top of that, he was just fucking gross
Oh, almost forgot… Taiwan is not China, Hong Kong deserves independence, and FREE FUCKING TIBET ALREADY.

So you link to a website made by a guy who makes films to support Trump, MAHA, anti-vax (including the false link to autism), and about a million other MAGA propaganda “documentaries” with a bunch of notable names in the medical, financial, and social right wing grifter sphere.
Jesus fucking christ.
I seriously cannot find any sources on the rape stuff aside from yours.
Whaaaaat? Youre telling me ‘factsanddetails.com’ might be biased?! But it says facts and details? Not bias and opinions?! You think people would just do that, go on the internet to lie? :O
That site is made by a notorious MAGA grifting “documentary” film maker.
That’s because it’s a lie. Because capitalists have to lie about socialism or we’d all be socialists.
I feel like we would have heard it a billion times already if it were true, lol.
It’s like a bug zapper for tankies
That site is made by a notorious MAGA grifting “documentary” film maker.
gross
relatable … til i’m basically mao (born wrong)
He claimed he needed the waters of yin — or vaginal secretions — to supplement his own declining yang — or male essence, the source of his strength, power and longevity.

This just seems like insane orientalist black propaganda, like Mao wasn’t daoist (and this is not daoism).
FREE FUCKING TIBET ALREADY
Mao already did, ShitLib. The Lamas will not be getting their slaves back no matter how many white people they con into crying about it.
I miss when nazis were scared.
Are you seriously calling him a nazi for citing facts about Mao?
facts
Easily debunked propaganda isn’t the same thing as facts.
See Cowbees well-sourced effort comment in reply to the racist Nazi shitbag TLC.
they’re not getting punched nearly enough
This is true, but absurdly out of context
I’ll laugh when tankie pigs are scared.
Wait I thought everyone on Lemmy were communists. Thank god
I think you have a misunderstanding of of what communism is.
Biased sources gtfo
But the information is correct, despite any perceived bias of the people reporting it.
It’s a shame they don’t teach media literacy
Regarding your source for the claim of Mao as a sex abuser, The Private Life of Chairman Mao by Li Zhisui, here’s what Wikipedia has to say:
Several people have questioned the authenticity of the book. Li’s memoirs were not based on original records or personal diaries. During the Cultural Revolution, he burnt all of his original diaries and, as such, the book was based on restructured memories which might be wrong or fallible as Li’s collaborator, Anne Thurston, admitted.[14] Historian Frederick Teiwes accused Li of being “anti-Mao”.[15] According to Tai Hung-chao, who was the translator of the book, Random House, the company which published the book, wanted to add more “juicy bits” to the book such as Mao’s sex life in order to attract a larger readership.[15] Li disagreed with this line of approach, but eventually gave in to it.[15] A statement protesting that many of the claims made in Li’s book were false was issued soon after its publication, signed by 150 people who had personally known or worked with Mao, including Wang Dongxing, Li Yinqiao and Ye Zilong.
The about this site section of factsanddetails.com is also especially concerning:
I am not professor or an expert on the subjects I write about but I have done a fair amount of reading about them. I try to use good sources (see below) and have been doing what I am doing—collecting and organizing information and facts— for some time and feel I have developed some skill at it. The text is written in factoid style generally using language found in travel guides, magazines and newspapers rather than academic journals. I don’t have footnotes and bibliographies but I often list sources at the end of the facts or under the first fact under each subheading. When a source is not listed the information: 1) can be taken to be a generally accepted fact (often seen in at least two different places); 2) has been arrived at through observation (direct or second hand through other sources) or by common sense; or 3) was taken from a newspaper or magazine article that didn’t attribute it.
In other words, hearsay is totally fine and allowable information.
When I started this project in the 1990s I used mostly print sources such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Daily Yomiuri (a Japanese newspaper), The Times, National Geographic, Smithsonian magazine, The New Yorker, Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, The Guardian, Atlantic Monthly, Archeology magazine, Natural History magazine, news services used by these periodicals such Reuters, Associated Press and AFP, information from national tourist offices, tourist brochures I have picked up from places I have visited, Lonely Planet Guides, other travel guides, Compton’s Encyclopedia and various books and other publications.
In other words, near-exclusively western media, with no alternative perspectives whatsoever.
When I started this project I was living in the Washington D.C. area and called every embassy and national tourist office and asked them to send all the information they had—and started with that. Later, I collected the newspapers, magazines and books that I listed above and every few months spent an entire day cutting them up and putting them in piles based on country or topic and put the piles into boxes with previous piles, ending up with about half a room full of article-filled boxes. The piles of articles used so far for China and Japan alone, when added all together, would probably exceed three or four meters in height. It is a crazy system I know but is ultimately easier, more comprehensive and reliable than relying totally on Google searches.
In other words, the site maintained lived in the heart of the US, and found sources directly from the US state department.
As for Taiwan, their own self-described title is the Republic of China, who do not claim independence from the mainland but instead sovereignty as the self-percieved legitimate government of the mainland as well as Taiwan. Saying “Taiwan is not China” is actually against Taiwanese identity. The question isn’t whether or not Taiwan is Chinese, but whether the government in Taiwan or Beijing is the legitimate government of China.
As for Hong Kong, as of 2019 (the latest polling) only 17% want independence from the mainland. Hong Kong was already freed from British colonialism, and has now been returned to China as the era of colonialism has ended.
There’s no actual polling data concerning Tibet that I can find. However, prior to the intervention of the PLA, Tibet was a feudal slave society with rampant sex abuse.
The Tibetan serfs were something more than superstitious victims, blind to their own oppression. As we have seen, some ran away; others openly resisted, sometimes suffering dire consequences. In feudal Tibet, torture and mutilation — including eye gouging, the pulling out of tongues, hamstringing, and amputation — were favored punishments inflicted upon thieves, and runaway or resistant serfs. [22]
Journeying through Tibet in the 1960s, Stuart and Roma Gelder interviewed a former serf, Tsereh Wang Tuei, who had stolen two sheep belonging to a monastery. For this he had both his eyes gouged out and his hand mutilated beyond use. He explains that he no longer is a Buddhist: “When a holy lama told them to blind me I thought there was no good in religion.” [23] Since it was against Buddhist teachings to take human life, some offenders were severely lashed and then “left to God” in the freezing night to die. “The parallels between Tibet and medieval Europe are striking,” concludes Tom Grunfeld in his book on Tibet. [24]
In 1959, Anna Louise Strong visited an exhibition of torture equipment that had been used by the Tibetan overlords. There were handcuffs of all sizes, including small ones for children, and instruments for cutting off noses and ears, gouging out eyes, breaking off hands, and hamstringing legs. There were hot brands, whips, and special implements for disemboweling. The exhibition presented photographs and testimonies of victims who had been blinded or crippled or suffered amputations for thievery. There was the shepherd whose master owed him a reimbursement in yuan and wheat but refused to pay. So he took one of the master’s cows; for this he had his hands severed. Another herdsman, who opposed having his wife taken from him by his lord, had his hands broken off. There were pictures of Communist activists with noses and upper lips cut off, and a woman who was raped and then had her nose sliced away. [25]
The tankies are coming in hot with wikipedia sources. It’s also fucking hilarious that you’re like "I can’t disprove tibet wants independence so I’ll just call them all savages and pedophiles while sourcing the sketchiest website in history. Bro get Maos micropenis out of your mouth and stop licking boots.
Edit: .ml should have known lmao you’re a cancer
you’re a cancer
Used to be you actually had to scratch the Liberals…
Fuck you and your fascist instinct to dehumanize anyone providing information that creates a cognitive dissonance against your billionaire funded narratives.
Another one! Get fucked tankie ✌️
Day will come when leftfascists and rightfascists hang in a perfect harmony
I don’t like Wikipedia as a source, but it’s generally accepted as the standard for liberal academia. If a source criticizing communism or communist figures is disputed even among Wikipedia, then it isn’t a good source, most likely.
As for the bit on Tibet, I’m fully capable of admitting when I do not know something, unlike the person I replied to. However, I said the exact opposite of calling Tibetans “savages and pedophiles.” I called the feudal slavers as such, just like I would be comfortable calling the plantation owners of the south pedophiles and torturers. Dr. Michael Parenti painted the Tibetan serfs not as pedophiles and savages, but as people with their own agency in actively opposing their own torture:
The Tibetan serfs were something more than superstitious victims, blind to their own oppression. As we have seen, some ran away; others openly resisted, sometimes suffering dire consequences. In feudal Tibet, torture and mutilation — including eye gouging, the pulling out of tongues, hamstringing, and amputation — were favored punishments inflicted upon thieves, and runaway or resistant serfs.
As for the site I linked, it’s not the source. You can read the source on Duke University’s website, I just linked the site I did because I prefer to link text over PDFs. Dr. Michael Parenti isn’t some random person, but was a university professor and academic.
I have no idea why you attacked me with homophobia at the end, certainly you’re capable of insulting me without resorting to bigotry. Same with immediately dehumanizing me as cancer.

That sounds a lot like what Amnesty International is saying that China is doing to the Uighurs today:
https://www.amnesty.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Amnesty-International_China-Report_FINAL.pdf
It doesn’t, actually. Have you read the report yourself? I recommend reading what Uyghur people actually have to say, as well as researching the validity/invalidity of the allegations. There’s absolutely no evidence of anything even close to approaching the kind of torture the Tibetan serfs and slaves dealt with.
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on Ukraine and Palestine. Im certain they are sane.
I want a one state solution where Palestine is free. I want the war in Ukraine to end, with self-determination for the people in Donetsk and Luhansk and an end to the lives lost.
with self-determination for the people in Donetsk and Luhansk
They killed all the people who wanted to remain in Ukraine.
They both seceded in response to the president they elected seceding, then a civil war emerged. The people of the Donbass have the right to self-determination, not state repression.
BS

So fucking funny to see folks scrambling to bury the Facts and Logic Post. There is simply no stomach on this site for anything but Western Jingoism, when it comes to a country on the big list of National Enemies.
The crazy thing is they are the same people who are the first to complain about living under capitalism on places like r/antiwork. Everyone can see that capitalism is the problem, yet so many people have a diamond-hard mental wall up against the idea that the capitalists might lie about their biggest enemies.
The only people that think China and the West are enemies are the Chinese people, because the Chinese leadership has to keep telling them that while they reap all the profits of their labour.
Sometimes I forget that Americans exist. Then people like you pop up and remind me.
The United States government, since the mid-1800s, and especially since their pets committed genocide in china in the 1940s, has spent more money spreading sinophobia than on propaganda against any other nation. https://www.jstor.org/stable/48823948

RedditLemmy!Please explain the racism part.
No really, if it’s racist, I don’t want to further racism, and would like to know how it’s racist.
Damn, lotta nazis in this bar wtf
Cartoon bear has yellow fur, so comparing an Asian person has some racial connotation in the same way as an old dude pointing at African Americans and saying “blacks”
It’s not. The commentator above is just using Israeli style conflation to attempt to dismiss any critique of the Chinese government as racist against Chinese.
Side note: For the record, I’m not racist. I hate everyone equally.
Okay, but if someone drew Netanyahu like a Jewish caricature, that’d be racist.
That would be like saying depicting Netanyahu as a hook-nosed goblin is merely criticizing Israel. The reason it’s seen as racist to depict Xi as a yellow bear should not be difficult to put together.
What you’re looking for in that comparison is Asian people in a traditional farming had, literal slants for eyes, two large front teeth in the drawing. This clearly is not that.
Trying to compare something that clearly isn’t that to the Jewish equivalent is an exact representation of what the other user above you was getting at.
You weren’t even involved and you jumped out of the bushes to tell on yourself.
Now I’m going to put my seat belt on, because I expect a full ban from all .world instances because of this. I’ve experienced it directly from you already for far less than pointing this shit out. It makes sense that you’d jump at a chance to defend dictators when you pull shit like that as a mod.
Winne the pooh is racist now? Dude - the whole reason it became a meme is because someone made a cute comparison of how Xi looks like Pooh (which he objectively does) and the whiny little bitch threw a hissy fit and created his own personal Streisand effect. It has nothing to do with the Chinese people and everything to do with a thin-skinned dictator.
Remove your head from your ass before you speak. You’ll sound a lot smarter.
No, Xi does not “objectively look like Winnie the Pooh.” I understand that you may not have intended on being racist from the outset, but do you really need to be explained why depicting a Chinese man as a yellow cartoon is racist?
Sure he doesn’t…
By your logic, the Simpsons are racist against Chinese because they have yellow skin. Again, you keep talking, but all that comes out is incoherent bullshit.

Extremely different in historical context, considering one is a stereotype of a victim of genocide (obviously, the Jewish people, not Nathanyhu, fuck that guy slightly harder than Xi), and the other is specific to the leader of a nation perpetuating it.
The only nation perpetrating genocide here is Israel in Palestine, but even if historical context is different, what remains the same is the basis of the insult in racism!

This one?
What’s racist about making fun of a land grabbing dictator?
what’s racist about depicting jews as goblins?
that’s not how you worded it but how it sounds like.
Again, I’m referring to one dude, you’re the one conflating it to an entire race of people.
Do better next time, and don’t be racist, okay?
I dunno, tell me why comparing a Chinese man to a yellow cartoon bear is funny to you.
Because the dictator doesn’t like it. Duh…
It’s not.
Tankies like to argue that comparing Xi Xiping to Winnie the Pooh is racist because Winnie the Pooh is that off orange-yellow colour, and it’s easy to pretend racism starts and ends at vague commentary about skin colour and not, you know, power structures and oppression.
But it’s an argument of convinience, brought to you by the same people who scream “ReAd ThEoRy!!” when obscure, specific and often misunderstood academic understandings of complex political systems are more useful to their mental gymnastics.
What actually matters is that it upsets a dictator of one of the most powerful countries of the world. And fuck that guy in particular.

Am I reading this correct, you’re saying it does not matter if it’s racist, merely that it upsets the target?
You’re not reading it correct
More than happy to see how else it could be read.
I literally open the post with “it’s not racist.” To ignore that and read the rest of the post as “I don’t care if it is racist” is either intentionally dishonest, or incredibly stupid. Regardless of whether or not you agree with my take, those are the only two options for misrepresenting my opinion as “I don’t care if it is racist,” so take your pick on which of the two you think you’re being right now.
If you don’t see how comparing the leader of an Asian country to a yellow cartoon bear is racist, then you yourself are probably irredeemably racist.
But on the off chance you’re not: this is like when Trump posted the video of the Obama’s as apes. Does that help put it in perspective?
Wow. Didn’t expect it to work so fast. You ok, boo boo?
Like crack for tankies
What was racist about any of that?
Its not “some” of the broadcasters, it ALL the broadcasters. china is in full censorship mode on this guy.
Their censorship isn’t working anymore. The walls are breaking down, people are using VPNs, and Chinese people are talking to us on western social media sites. They can still believe it’s all western propaganda lies, but they can’t hide from the truth anymore.
I think the response has actually been more often something like “wow, Americans and Europeans really have it that bad?”
How is that even insulting?
He called Mao a dictator. Apparently stating indisputable facts is unacceptable.
Mao has called himself a dictator which is the real irony here…
To play devil’s advocate, the meaning of “dictatorship” in “dictatorship of the proletariat” is different from the modern/conventional meaning of that word. Mao conceived of himself as leading a democracy, as ridiculous as that sounds.
If it’s a state dictatorship it’s always the same. Regardless of how you fantasize about it. It’s still disconnected unaccountable leadership at the top. And if you disagree, there are no democratic solutions for an enemy of the state.
Okay so here’s your mini-lecture on Marxist theory: Basically Marx didn’t believe in universal democracy (as in rule by all) within class society; since to him class conflict lie at the core of society any society with a class must have a ruling class that dominates other classes. Long story short under capitalism this dynamic expresses itself in the bourgeoisie (rich capital owners), who as the ruling class use their control of capital to dominate the proletariat (those who can only live by selling their labor, the working class). To express this dynamic he calls the class system of a society under capitalism the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie, irrespective of whether or not the society is governed as a liberal democracy, which can be readily confirmed by glancing around oneself. Therefore, in Marxist theory when the proletariat overthrow the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie they’ll assume power, and it’s that dynamic he calls the dictatorship of the proletariat (this is then supposed to wither away as class society transforms into classless communism). Given that the proletariat are the vast majority of the population, anything resembling true democracy in class society is going to be a dictatorship of the proletariat (though a dictatorship of the proletariat doesn’t have to be democratic), because of course effective rule by the 0.1% isn’t very democratic.
TL;DR: “Dictatorship of the proletariat” is Marxist terminology for “a society in which the working class runs things,” and doesn’t assume or preclude democracy.
That sure was a way to say a lot of things without saying anything addressing what was said.
I know Marx’s philosophy. Just because Marx theorized something does not make it so. And there are plenty of marxists that reject the dictatorship of the proletariat or the high level vanuardism of Lenin. If your primary response to criticism of the dictatorship of the proletariat within a massive state. Is simply to recite dogma, you have nothing of value to say
Also Maoism ≠ Marxism
Yep, but at that time China didn’t need to look cute in order to sell his crap to the whole globe.
He didn’t even mention Mao specifically
The insulting part is where he says (paraphrased) “I don’t like this meme because Mao killed a whole bunch of people and I didn’t (I think).”
I probably wouldn’t sponsor someone who wasn’t entirely sure they hadn’t killed a whole bunch of people, too, tbh.
In case anyone thought China was a serious country, this is a good reminder.
Have you been?
talk to actual chinese people instead of taking screenshots of tweets so seriously, and you will get a better idea.
Why do they even like Mao so much? Dude was only good for helping them get the country. Literally nothing else.
Why do they even like Mao so much?
Same reason Americans love George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Adam Smith.
He’s a Founding Father of the modern nation, a spiritual progenitor of their economic philosophy, and a guy with tons of media to play up as nostalgia bait for the Chinese equivalent MAGA nationalists.
You’ll see Chinese nationalists leap to his defense the same way you see American nationalists get Big Mad when you talk about Jefferson raping his father-in-law’s illegitimate slave daughter. Or reminding them why the White House is that color and under which President it happened.
Adam Smith was an economist, he lived earlier than Marx, another highly regarded economist, did. Adam Smith wasn’t a founding father of the 🇺🇲.
I’ve never understood the stereotype that Americans idolize a bunch of old white guys from the 1700s.
Most people I know don’t give a single shit about them, and the ones that do are very vocal about their dislike of them.
It’s pretty widely accepted that they were all garbage human beings by today’s standards.
If you mean Republicans idolizing them but only in specific circumstances that support bigoted worldviews, then sure.
I’ve never understood the stereotype that Americans idolize a bunch of old white guys from the 1700s.
Have you ever talked to a Texan, or anyone over 50?
Yeah, doesn’t look like you guys are beating the stereotype of supporting garbage people

What, because we haven’t torn down a massive stone monument from 1941? The vast majority of us weren’t even born when it was completed. Are you going to condemn Chinese people for not blowing up the Terracotta Army?
Remind me, do Germans have a national memorial park for Hitler?
Is it too much to ask them to not do that, if so?
You guys keep praising/worshipping rapists and pedophiles and maintain grand monuments dedicated to them.
That’s the problem I’m referring to.
Hitler sort of ruined Germany. As in, the country was literally in ruins at the end of his reign.
Okay, makes sense.
He’s meant to be a legendary figure.
There’s kinda a large gap between Jefferson being a sexual predator and Mao allowing 25+ million people to starve in the great leap forward. Definitely feels like one requires ignoring a lot more in order to defend.
It wasn’t as if he intentionally caused the famine.
There’s abusing someone and owning slaves vs. accidentally shooting yourself in the leg, and by “yourself” I mean the whole country that you started.
No, but he did intentionally Sanction the murders of millions of people. Still wanna compare the two?
There’s no winner in this battle.
I don’t think I’d invite Jefferson or mao for dinner.
Or you know, place them in the hall of fame.
Same reason Americans love George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Adam Smith.
The average Americans have never heard of Adam Smith.
And the ones that have studied him are aware that he was a critic of capitalism, not a proponent of it.
The average Americans have never heard of Adam Smith.
Going to have to see your homework on that one
Life expectancy doubled under Mao. Foot binding was ended. He was instrumental in the victory of China against Japanese imperialism. China rapidly industrialized under Mao. Without Mao, there certainly would have been someone else playing his historic role, but the important factor is that it was indeed Mao that led China to liberation and helped set in stone the modern prosperous China.
Life expectancy doubled
After a few hiccups.
The process began immediately:

Those “worldwide improvements in medical science” would never have reached the rural Chinese peasants who had never had access to Western medicine at all, without the Barefoot Doctors Program, which you’ve never heard of.
Just like Russia’s red lines
This is 0% true
China, dude, relax. With Trump in the white house you’re so perfectly poised to take the throne… why you gotta ruin it by being a petty betty?
We can talk a trade deal, but first you have to unwind.
it wouldn’t be wise for any country let alone china to be trying to strike deals with the US, even moreso now that they are even more openly meaningless.
