Heavy winds, rains and hail can make the tall stems flip over before the grain ripens, ruining harvests. But Grossi circumvented the problem by planting miracolo with shorter wheat varieties that provide structural support.

Reminiscent of Indigenous Americans Three Sisters planting approach. Corn stalks provide support for bean stalks that fix nitrogen and both are shaded by squash that protects moisture. Diversity in agriculture helps in multiple ways.

The bible, weirdly, doesn’t want people planting two crops in the same field.

Like, is there ANYTHING it gets right?

As a desert based society, some of the stuff it tells you not to eat indeed is probably a good idea. Circumcision also serves a purpose in such a society.

Like I’d argue those don’t make sense NOW, but back then it was reasonable advice.
