Scrooge McDuck had a lot of issues, but come on

Just because someone refuses to wear pants doesn’t make them a pedophile. Live and let live.

This is also funny cuz “Goof” is a Canadian regional prison slang for “Child Molester.”

I tried rewatching these, to re-live some happy part of my childhood. Turns out Scrooge McDuck is actually a giant asshole.

In 2026, there would have been an episode where he partners with the techbros (which are related to the Beagle Bros some how) to get rich off of “selling intelligence”, Only to be stopped by his nephews uncovering a deep conspiracy to take over the world at the last minute(a partnership with Magika and Glomgold, perhaps) , and Scrooge pivoting to making a tidy profit from selling all the DRAM and renting data center space he’s suddenly come into possession of. It would have been a 2-episode season-ending cliffhanger.

When I was a kid, DuckTales was the show that made me notice the hollowness that pervades all Disney productions. Never understood why it was popular.

So, I get where you’re coming from, but Scrooge McDuck seems to have two key differences from your average flesh-and-blood billionaire, one, his fortune seemed to be in actual, tangible, assets (mostly gold coins and other currency), rather than imaginary share valuations, and two, he was unwilling to spend a cent of it if it could be avoided, including on things like buying politicians. The net result was that the gold and currency was removed from circulation, which would increase the value, and thus buying power, of what was left, without exerting any influence itself.

Another key difference is that he liked to dive face first into his fortune, and if other billionaires did that, the problem would largely solve itself.

He did regularly exploit everything for maximum profit though, so really he’d still be a problem, even though he’s not power hungry. And to protect his wealth he’d totally meddle in politics too (there’s probably more than one comic where that happens).

Well, he is at least often shown to have some amount of conscience left. Which is probably more than any real-life billionaire, at least the ones you’ve heard the names of.

We’ll, he’s rich sure. But would he have paid even a red cent to visit an island resort?

He was more of the “stay at home, swim in pile of gold” rich.

Jeffrey Epstein’s talent was to offer the things that powerful people wanted. Some of them wanted a secluded island where they could molest children. Others wanted book clubs with Nobel prize winners or famous writers.

Epstein would have tried to figure out something that appealed to Scrooge’s sensibilities, like maybe an audience with a dumb charismatic TV personality who’s running for president and that owes him a favor or two.

Epstein would have dangled treasure maps to some long lost ancient artifact guarded by terrible curses and venomous snakes.

Scrooge has a weakness, and it’s in almost every episode.

Yeah, you don’t get to Scrooge McDuck levels of money by being friendly. He absolutely would’ve sold out Epstein then made his own island, because the money bin doesn’t fill itself.

Sure, until you realize that Goofrey has videos of Scrooge alone and undressing in front of multiple gosslings… There’s a reason Goofrey was able to life the life he had openly and without getting slapped around by the system.

Or that he was in one of them, written as if he had anything useful to contribute rather than reflecting the truth of how his companies have people whose job it is to manage him when he shows up so that he doesn’t fuck things up with his orders. But yeah, Tony Stark himself is basically billionaire competence and morality propaganda. Entertaining propaganda but a lot of propaganda is these days.

Maybe that’s because I mostly read the Italian Disney comicbooks (they had the same style as this image) but I always thought Scrooge was aupposed to be a greedy, cruel prick who usually gets his commeupins at the end?
