Not actually recent, but a while back I learned that what we call the “bottom” of the banana is actually the top, flowering end. Turns out it’s way easier to open a banana at the flowering/non-stem end. So many years I’d been opening them at the other end, trying to snap off the stem part, mushing up that end of the banana most of the time.

The things come with a handle and we still get it wrong.

Neither way is wrong. I will often give the stem end a quick test and if it breaks and starts the peel, I peel from that end. If it doesn’t, I start at the other end. Both work just fine.

I tried this out a while back and tbh it’s hard to open on the non stem side for me. I will continue to use the stem side as it provides more leverage.

Easier way, grab in the middle and forcefully snap it in half, works even on very ripe bananas

Yeah I’ve done both for years and it just depends on the banana which end might be easier.

i just give it a little squeeze and it splits in two and it’s the easiest thing to pull apart, way easier than trying to get the stem part to separate unless you have a knife and cut it first…

I just break the outer layer on the inside of the stem base with my thumbnail and the stem lets me peel the first part back like a cartoon character. If I want the whole thing out I peel most of the way down and squeeze the opposite end to pull out the whole thing or eat my way down and use it to pop out the last part without that little seedy nub thing.

No knife needed and the peel keeps my hands clean. Easy peasy.

if i’m at home… i just cut 'em in half and peel from the cut. often i just want half anyway, and an unpeeled half banana will keep for awhile.

      Mushed banana tastes better anyways.
