(slightly off on a tagent but relevent)

i mean at this point, i feel like phones are just hostile, and computers are the last bastion of freedom in the digital world. run linux, connect to phone hotspot then you are free to use whatever encrypted programs you want, bypassing “client side scanning” or whatever bullshit they want to implement. like… from how i see it, google will eventually kill the bootloader unlock from pixels, and the vast majority of phones, even if bootloader unlockable, does not have relocking with custom keys and also lineage is kinda insecure (at least thats that seems to be the internet consensus), even if it might be more private.

Phone should just be a “modem/router” thing, your gateway to the internet, the actual stuff should just be done on a portable computer. Australia already started a whitelisting thing for phone, its only a matter of time.

This is mostly how I’ve been using my smartphone and tablet for years when it comes to computing (still use the smartphone as an actual phone) - when I’m out and about the smartphone is just a hotspot for when I have no free WiFi and I do most stuff on the tablet.

The problem is that there are very few Linux tablets and they’re all on the large size (10"+) hence you can’t just carry them in your back pocket or coat pocket.

So that means Android tablets, which means you’re still running Google’s eavesdropping OS.

Further, more and more companies and even official institutions now push you to use their apps in Android. Just recently my bank decided to scrap their perfectly sane and secure secondary authentication mechanism (which was literally a plastic card with lots of codes and thus pretty much not hackable and whose weaknesses were entirelly known and consistent for all users) for mandatory installation of their Android banking app on people’s smartphones to use (I! Kid! You! Not!) the phone’s fingerprint and facial-recognition systems (thus being exposed to the weaknesses of who knows how many different HW and SW combinations).

Lol, I mean banks already require KYC and have your real identity on record so you could just use it on your phone running the official corporate-built mobile os, I mean my point is, you aren’t even supposed to use VPN for online banking cuz they’ll just flag your connection, that connection is supposed to look as “normie” as possible (hence why it kinda breaks with graphene os). I’m talking about activities that you were previously using GrapheneOS/Custom ROMs for, like the stuff you want privacy for.
