Not pictured is the cluster of buildings that is the Navajo Embassy to the Hopi Nation. I’ve been told that that “block” and the surrounding road observe DLS.

So if going from Phoenix to the Four Corners, there is a route where you’d theoretically need to change your clock 6 times before leaving the state.

If they have a home planet that rotates and also has a tiled axis, they probably have their own time weirdness. If entities are on different sides of the planet from each other and want to use “small numbers” for time everywhere, they’ll probably be doing something similar.

As sensible as it would be to use a single clock for a planet, it isn’t really person compatible. It’s why the US still uses Fahrenheit for temperatures. Celsius is more sensible, but for a person 0=cold and 100=injury and death is too wide. Fahrenheit’s 0=cold and 100=uncomfortable is appealing.

You have to have more darkness at some point in the day during winter, there’s no getting around it. Arizona just made a choice to have darker mornings in lieu of no clock changes.

And to be fair they are further south so the daylight isn’t quite as scarce as it is in more northern states. I think getting rid of the clock changes makes a bit more sense the further south you go.

I can see the argument for DST or no DST. I can even sort of see the argument for DST matching the economic powerhouse a few hundred miles away. But there is nothing in planetary physics to justify 3 different time zone usages in such a small area, with major cities being on a different one than all the area around them, or for one quadrant to be (mostly) different from the rest of it.

Moreover, there is only a 2 hour shift of sunrise/sunset from the peak of summer to the depths of winter. That’s barely enough to justify the hassle of DST in my opinion.
