[Trump] has repatriated more than 1,600 Cubans in 2025, according to the Cuban government. That is about double the number of Cubans who were repatriated in 2024. And in the years that Mr. Trump has been president, he has sent more Cubans back than his three predecessors.
Families, businesses and communities that once felt removed from or immune to immigration enforcement now must face it head-on. Some Floridians worry that these deportations could stain the state’s proud Cuban identity, turning older immigrants against newer ones.

It was not particularly veiled. The level of hysteria around immigrants “eating the cats and the dogs” and other insane statements made very, very clear trump thought every nonwhite immigrant was an illegal criminal. He constantly accused legal immigrants of being illegals. He said asylum seekers were illegals.
The thing that should be surprising is that actual criminals seem to be targeted at a lower rate than ever before.
Gotta let the drug crisis keep going as a pretext for every other crack down. As well I bet he’s getting some kick backs from some of the cartels.
While I’m sure there’s some degree of corruption/collusion I think its also just the realities of quotas: if you get the same quota points for an armed human trafficker as you do a peaceful grandma, who are you going to pick next to deport? Who is going to take less time to pick up?
The quotas are actually one of the reasons protests are so effective as well. The more time they waste the worse the ICE agent’s numbers look.
