That’s how the government eliminates the basic rights. Step by step. Starting with small things. Almost always with “defend children” slogans. Do you want to look into the future? Analyze Russia’s today: they started “defending” kids ~10 years ago. Look where they are now. You will be there soon too.
Not super fair to compare a constitutional republic like the russian federation to an american vassal like australia. They don’t have zionists writing their social media laws to pick just one example of australians not deciding what happens in australia.
my russian is a little rusty, plus unfortunately my family still live here.
You think that calling a spade a spade is disloyalty? I just gave a neutral description, i could have been much more flattering of russia and disparaging of australia, but who cares how i feel? i’m just describing reality.
No, you’re talking one up and the other down. I’d imagine you’d want to be in the one you prefer.
I could have been much more flattering…
Go ahead then. I doubt too many would share your view.
just describing reality
Not really. It’s much, much better to live in Australia than it is Russia. We can call out the Zionist stuff you’re going in about. Try that shit in Russia.
it sounds like you don’t distinguish between australians and ‘Australia’.
One is a group of people that (if you live here) probably includes everyone you like, know and love, including your immediate family. The other is a nation which exists within a historical and material context, one which can and must be criticised as a matter of civic duty.
Which country recently passed legislation restricting speech on behalf of the zionist entity? the one you live in or the one you read about in australian media?
Where does your confidence even come from? western media? the same media which serves the epstein class?
Also you realise that russia is not a communist country right? so accusing me of being a ‘tankie’ here doesn’t really make sense…
I know it’s painful to hear something that isn’t reinforced culturally on the ABC but australia is not a sovereign country, whereas russia is. It is really is that simple. Live wherever you want, prefer whichever country you want, but reality will still be reality.

I always wondered why they didn’t let kids have sex, smoke cigarettes, drive cars, drink alcohol forced them to go to school etc. It was all about taking away their rights /s
Its not like there isnt endless amounts of research showing social medias toxicity. Better to ban it outright but here we are.
It’s like when the government took slot machines from kids, then cigarettes, then alcohol… A never ending erosion of rights that serves no legitimate purpose.
I was mostly teasing. I do believe, as you seem to, that rights are eroded from the edges and that is one reason it is important to protect activities we disagree with. 'Protect the kids" is often used to deny rights to adults but kids are legitimately protected by the laws of society from a lot of predatory things. The social media ban doesn’t stop adults from doing anything or make them do anything so it doesn’t fit the case for sneaky control like cisa or gun control in the US or chat control in the EU. I don’t think advertisers should be able to advertise directly to children. Teams of human psychology and behavior experts crafting the most addictive product available and being able to constantly live A/B test their newest ideas is bad for kids. It’s bad for adults too but to each their own.

Besides have to submit ID documents or a scan of their faces to companies that routinely sell or leak that data… Why do supporters of this law always just ignore that part?
What are you talking about? I made a single comment pointing out the reality that “age verification” means giving up private information to companies that has already resulted in many thousands of IDs and face photos being stolen. That’s a fact
And you replying that it hasn’t happened to you is an absolutely pointless thing to say, btw. Doesn’t mean it isn’t happening to others. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen to you
I can’t access that site with my VPN but I’m aware that the law technically doesn’t say they need to use PII. But that’s how websites are doing it anyway

That’s both the funniest and stupidest thing I’ve read all week, thanks for the sad laugh.
Loosely speaking, Russia has been “where they are now” since the failure of Perestroika and the collapse of the Soviet Union some 30+ years ago. None of that was done under the guise of “defending kids”, so quit your delusional ranting.

One would almost think you’d want to move to such a republic the way you talk it up there.

At no point did I say I agreed with any or every position that my country’s government takes, in fact I voted with a lot of that in mind.
I think I can take great confidence however in saying that this country is far better, far fairer and much more safer to live in than Russia.
Go on with tankie shit as much as you like, but this really isn’t a comparison.
Where does your confidence even come from? western media? the same media which serves the epstein class?

Yes, keep equaling cigarettes to social media. That’s very wise.

Have yet to have a single account ask me for or do any of this.
Doesn’t mean it’s not happening
True, but you presented your scenario as a sweeping oppression occuring to all Australians in an exceedingly over the top hyperbolic statement.

But you don’t in Australia? The digital verification schemes are bad too but they can theoretically be done in a privacy respecting way.

TIL social media access is a basic right. Food, water and Facebook.
