Funny how no one remembers that cars have been killing pedestrians for decades, but somehow bikes are the problem.

      It’s more:

Parents. Don’t buy you’re kids unrestricted e-bikes and let them ride them on the footpath and hit someone.

Why is the guardian conflating E motorbikes and normal legal ebikes? Overpowered ebikes are already illegal on roads. We either need to enforce it more or the commonwealth needs to ban them being imported.

Because one of these is a relative rarity and the other could be in your garage right now!!!

We need to invest in bike infrastructure.

    EDIT:

I think Australia should be considering a pathway to licensing and regulation for these e-motorbikes. A course to learn the laws, roadworthy rules, registration, vehicle lights (indicators, tail, stop, front, high beam), minimum helmet requirements, etc.

    Used appropriately, they’re great devices.

Probably more importantly, develop actual micro-mobility infrastructure to allow any gross vehicle mass under ~200kg it’s own proper “roads” where they’re not interacting with cars or pedestrians, esp trucks, kids and dogs.

Currently bikes are mostly forced to deal with one or the other, which draws ire from the public because of the general fuck anyone who affects me in any negative manner attitude we seem to have fostered about transit.
