You can point to many consoles throughout history and ask “wHaTs tHe PoInT???” based on their launch titles.
Yeah, exactly. Some consoles had a killer app, like Super Mario 64. Or 3D graphics. Or the console doubled as a DVD player. Or it had some other sort of new tech.
I’m not really seeing what the killer app the Switch 2 has that makes it worth such a high price.
Okay, so you’re asking what the point is in buying it at launch…in which case I’d agree. The same could be said for many consoles throughout history, and particularly for Nintendo consoles which are always primarily about the games.
Yeah, exactly. The post is about the launch date, but I guess I still should’ve clarified that I don’t get the excitement for the Switch 2 on its launch date in particular.
Yeah, new Nintendo console. But new consoles haven’t really been particularly exciting for a while imo – they aren’t really doing anything new. The Switch did new stuff (the first “hybrid” console/mobile device), and the Steam Deck made PC gaming (and the Steam library) handheld.
But since then and aside from that? I really don’t understand what’s to be excited about a new console launch at such a high price point, especially when they’re setting a new standard (high) price for games. I’m not seeing anything new that hasn’t been done before.
…and the downvotes are not changing my mind, lol…that suggests to me that it’s just fanboyism. And that’s great for those who are excited. To me, it seems like successful brand marketing with little substance behind it.
I don’t know why you’re complaining about downvotes in response to me, I don’t even have vote scores enabled. But in general I agree with you, I think the only console I got at launch was the Wii and that was a Christmas gift when I was still living with my parents so I didn’t spend any of my own money. It was also because Twilight Princess was a launch title and I didn’t own a GameCube so I was yet to play it (Zelda is my favourite Nintendo series so that made it a worthwhile purchase at launch).
