You can’t really compare the Vatican to WW2. But if you did, imagine if the axis powers still existed and got to keep most of their territories while telling their neighbours they just wanted peace but also promoting their generals and crimes as heroic and necessary.
Once again, you can’t really compare these two. Especially since all the modern countries that descend from the axis powers relinquished the territories they conquered and have often even payed compensations to their former victims.
