If anyone has any doubts why I ban people, look no further than this. And this is tame compared to some of the abuse I experienced.
I’ve had people target me for alcoholism and cancer. There are real pieces of shit on Lemmy, and because of that to protect myself and my communities people will be banned at the first sign of trouble. Do I make mistakes? Sure. Although considering responses to bans like these or worse, I don’t make very many.

I would prefer people didn’t when addressing me casually. I know for some people Ze/Zir is hard to remember, and it doesn’t bother me much when I know people are trying and don’t have malicious intent. But if someone openly refuses to use Ze/Zir pronouns because they feel like I “don’t deserve it” that’s different, and it does bother me that they are looking for ways or reasons not to respect my identity. They aren’t actually trying.
Thats fair, I thought it would better to use they/them than directly slurring you.
