The administration of United States President Donald Trump has announced plans to expand the use of the federal death penalty, including through the deployment of firing squads.
The announcement on Friday was part of a policy document issued by the Department of Justice, setting out the legal argument for various methods of execution.
It touted steps for “restoring and strengthening” the death penalty as integral to the pursuit of justice.
“The Department of Justice acted to restore its solemn duty to seek, obtain, and implement lawful capital sentences — clearing the way for the Department to carry out executions once death-sentenced inmates have exhausted their appeals,” the Justice Department said in a news release.

There’s always talk about how they can’t find a painless way…
But anyway would be painless if they just used anesthesia first like before surgery.
They don’t want a painless way.
Also, inert gas asphyxiation is supposed to be totally painless, and simple nitrogen is very abundant and easy to get.
(But, for some reason, governments don’t like the aesthetics of ‘gas chambers’. Odd, that.)
Only if done right. The execution in Georgia (IIRC) used a mask instead of a chamber.
I know what you meant, but the visuall aesthetic of a gas chamber is fucked…
I got tear gassed in one in bootcamp, and the thing that sticks out the most is how ominous and sanitized a room like that is.
Obviously not the same thing, but everybody had a “holy fuck” moment when we were walking in and being ordered into ranks and everything.
There was a lot of very surreal moments like that.
To be fair, a high caliber round to the head would be pretty instant. I’d take over a lethal injection.
But nitrogen is the best method.
