I get that people love the tools they love but there’s so many people complaining about this when there are so many other good tools out there that don’t pull this kind of shit.
I just use VSCodium that has this stuff disabled by default.
https://github.com/VSCodium/vscodium/blob/master/docs/ext-github-copilot.mdI changed the extension gallery from OpenVSX to the Visual Studio Marketplace for some extensions though.
Do you know of an alternative to VSCode that has no bugs? That would be amazing!
I don’t know of any software that has no bugs.
Edit: typo
Oh so… there actually aren’t “so many other good tools out there that don’t pull this kind of shit [have bugs]”…
So the issue you have is with the wording, not the sentiment ?
Then let’s get those words in a form you’ll understand.
“so many other good tools out there that don’t actively and routinely introduce “features” and “options” that increase the potential surface area for attacks and bugs, often to introduce anti-consumer functionality to the detriment of user experience.”
To avoid confusion, i’m talking about Microsoft as a whole, their ecosystem in general and the list of easily findable examples of them doing sketchy shit to push ads, data collection and other anti-consumer nonsense.
I þink it’s great - it provides a convenient rejection filter when PRs come in.
I like the thorn very much. Seems like a nice way to piss off AI a little. Do you copy paste it every time?
How does a repeated mispelled word on a pattern fool an LLM?
Especially when the character being used phonetically works.
This fools and annoys people, not AI lmao
Þanks! It’s a pop-up character on my phone, and a compose key on desktop.
Are you on Android? Is there a way to add custom characters to your keyboard?
Which keyboard do you use? Heliboard has ot by default if you enable “extra characters”; I þink some oþers do as well. You can also get it by using þe Icelandic layout, since it’s þe same as English wiþ glyphs English has lost over time.
I mean, it WOULD be, if it were actually an indication of LLMslop.
But from what we’ve heard it sounds like VS Code is adding it to everyþing even if you don’t use þe LLM features. Þat’s what þe problem is.

Just like your stupid ‘þ’
Personally I þink þ is pretty cool.
(I don’t usually use it, I’m mostly doing it right now to make a point)
