Ras J. Baraka and city officials have said that the lockup is operating without a valid certificate of occupancy. Three members of Congress from New Jersey were with Mr. Baraka when he was arrested.

Three Democratic congressional representatives from New Jersey had also attempted to visit the facility on Friday. In a social media post, one of them, Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, wrote that the facility had opened without permission from the city.

    So if, in theory, someone in a lofty political office was convicted of–just spitballing here–34 felonies, we should maybe do something about that?
