While caffeine is the major individual component of coffee, the study suggests that it may not be the primary driver of these health effects.
Instead, a range of naturally occurring compounds — many also found in fruits and vegetables — appear to play a larger role.
Goddammit. I know this is how science works but make up your mind? Coffee is bad! Eh, good! Bad now! Good again! You’ll die! But you’ll live longer too!
Wo i just cut coffee off completely, should I start drinking again?
Is there like a monthly quota in the scientific community for papers that praise coffee?
Those that partake publish more often than those who don’t? 🤪☕
I just imagine some researcher on their third pot of coffee that evening, head aching and dehydrated. Frenetically compiling evidence that their crippling caffeine dependency, is actually very good for them and their physical and mental health, thank you very much.
In previous work, Safe and collaborators described NR4A1 as a “nutrient sensor” — a receptor that responds to compounds found in the diet and plays a role in maintaining health as the body ages.
“If you damage almost any tissue, NR4A1 responds to bring that damage down,” Safe said. “If you take that receptor away, the damage is worse.”
Research has shown that NR4A1 is involved in a wide range of biological processes, including inflammation, metabolism and tissue repair — all of which are closely tied to age-related diseases such as cancer, neurodegeneration and metabolic disorders.
NR4A1 also exacerbates cancer, supercharging it to the point NR4A1 inhibitors are often prescribed…
Like, that’s the problem with curing “aging”, when cells don’t die, that’s fucking cancer. Living 20 more years as Deadpool likely isn’t a great deal.
Even short term, this is encouraging cell division which burns thru telomere length faster than normal. So yeah, short term you’d feel “younger” but in five years you’ll look older than you would have due to things like loss if skin elasticity…
Of course, that would be from significant doses, not sure how much coffe until it’s a problem
