Studies found that charcoal and gastric lavage (stomach pumping) was just as effective at preventing poisoning. The complications of ipecac include aspirating vomit into the trachea. Digestive fluids cause some pretty severe injuries in the lungs.
Yeah but (not looking for a fight) but in a setting at a hospial with staff all around them and administering it. There should or would there be a cause for alarm. Unless you went to a crap hospital
Aspiration is one of the main ways to die in a hospital, regardless of quality. After aspiration, lung inflammation often follows quickly if you are already weakened. Also, if you’re weakened, you will probably have not much strength to cough hard enough to clear your airways.
There are a lot fewer staff around than TV would have you believe. You would need basically 1-on-1 supervision until the drug wore off, which is very resource intensive compared to a one-time intervention.

If you’re already in a hospital, why wouldn’t they just pump your stomach?
