I don’t think you’re recognizing the challenges of live streaming to thousands of people at once. This would destroy any existing Peertube instance, and there is no reason for NY to set up their own when most of the population is elsewhere. I’m all for federation, but the infrastructure isn’t there for this.
I’ll personally choose to celebrate when leaders do something great instead of nitpicking their platform choices.
