Just 24 hours after his CBS finale, Stephen Colbert did an hour of Michigan public access TV, with Jack White, Jeff Daniels and a Byron Allen FaceTime.
Honestly, yeah. A lot more room for improv, writing was on point, great chemistry with the community channel folk. It was closer to playing a host “character” than it was to him just being the host and he is the likely the GOAT at the former as we haven’t seen anything like the Colbert report since.
I remember there being a lot of skepticism / some sense of loss towards him going from so effectively delivering satire deadpan to the Late Show and I honestly did not watch much of it since it inevitably had to be more generic and bland, being network television. I hope he gets more opportunities to do things like this since he’s still got it.
The closest he got to getting to do this on the Late Show was the segment “Meanwhile” which is just not long enough for him to get into it.
Oh my word that was bloody hilarious. Funnier than any of his ‘regular’ shows I’ve seen.
