we have these little bowls, we call them pinch bowls and salsa bowls (i use them for my mise en place with spices that i need a salt pig or something similar, or when i’m having a small bowl of midnight salsa). they hold about 1 cup / 250mL. maybe half that, i’ve never really measured. for the cats we’ll put in an ice cube or two and some water when it’s hot. it’s a little supplement in addition to their fountains and they love it.
We had a cat when I grew up, a lovely female cat with completely black fur, short but compact, with tuffs of hair on her ears.
I remember the first time I gave her some ice on a plate, it was summer, 30+ C in Sweden, she lay in the shadow under a table on the deck of our house, seemingly completely exhausted.
So I got an ice cube and put it on a plate and brought it to her.
She was interested and sat up straight and looked at the cube, gave it a sniff and a small lick, and clearly was interested, but a bit confused.
It wasn’t long before she realized that if she just waited a bit she could drink some cool refreshing water, and got excited.
She looked intently at the ice cube and then gave it a few licks, then back to looking and so on.

It was quite interesting to see.
