Google does not retain any images or videos of a user’s hand gestures beyond the verification process or use the data for any other purpose. Videos or images are automatically deleted after the challenge is complete.

      Pinky promise!*

Until the eventual change to its privacy policy to allow themselves to do it

    Accessibility

For users with accessibility needs who cannot use hand gestures to complete the challenge, reCAPTCHA continues to provide visual and audio challenges, and develop more accessible and secure alternatives.

A bone thrown our way, how long will this last? Anyway, fuck Google, as always.

Nothing on that page says it’ll be forced upon you - it sounds like just another verification method alongside the regular reCAPTCHA ones.

I mean, I’m all for shitting on Google but I really doubt they’re gonna prevent people who may not have a webcam from signing into Youtube as they need that sweet ad revenue. Others using Google’s reCAPTCHA might but as someone else posted, the accessibility options that are available on any Google reCAPTCHA will remain so just click on the visually impaired option and listen to the robot read out a captcha for you if anything

    • it won’t be for most users. it woll be for ones who opt out of optional / regulatory minimum data sharing, people connecting through VPNs, people using privacy focused browsers… basically the users they don’t have entirely profiled with metadata.

by taking a few steps to adblock and maintain privacy, ive noticed i get a lot more verification"checkpoints" from websites that are basically built on data harvesting compared to people who take no precautions.

Yes exactly. My computer and browser are very locked down. Encrytped DNS, VPN, Noscript, Librewolf, Linux, etc. Because of this I simply cannot use most major websites. They will block me from accessing until I provide an account linked to a real person. Which I refuse to do. I tried to make a burner facebook account recently to sell on marketplace and couldn’t do it because they wanted to scan my face, for example. I’m kinda just getting used to the idea that most of the internet is off limits to me now.

if they continue to offer the standard audio and visual version for accessibility, why exactly are they offering this if it adds no benefit?
