Israel plays a game by saying they are independent but are essentially parasites. They rely on the US for everything - financial, military, diplomatic and cultural support. Just see the latest attempt by them to latch on to intelligence and military budget spending.
I’d say symbiotes. The US doesn’t strictly need Israel, but it benefits from having a glorified military base in that area. Israel strictly depends on the US, but they’re playing a dangerous game with constant escalations, to the point where the US may decide that they’re no longer worth the effort.
