…Even getting held incommunicado for a few hours and being released leaves that worker better off than dozens of other people from Quneitra, who have been captured and taken to an unidentified site colloquially known as Israeli Guantanamo, where they are asked about Iran and about Hezbollah, according to people who have been released from there after days or even weeks of detention.
Some don’t come back at all. Some families have been agitating for the UN or human rights groups to get involved, because their relatives were detained for unknown reasons and were never seen again. Their fates are unknown.
So, indeed, is the reason they were captured in the first place. The IDF has been remarkably opaque about its Syrian operations. Early 2025 raids centered on them bragging about all the weapons they seized from locals, but as operations grow to include seemingly arbitrary detention, the IDF almost never comments on anything they’re doing in Syria at all. And right on schedule, Israel engages in a bit of genocidal sleight-of-hand, distracting from their atrocities against one neighbor by increasing them against another.
It’ll be Yemen’s turn next.
Israel = The Greater Middle East
I’m sure some, also in the US, dream of this.
There is no distraction. They are simply trying to create greater israel
Certainly.
But part of their strategy for doing that is to regularly shift their focus, which also shifts the focus of the rest of the world, which invariably takes a while to fully catch up, which gives Israel a period of essentially free rein to engage in murder on a particularly grand scale.
Then when the rest of the world catches up and the condemnation for their current main mass murder gets loud enough and pointed enough to potentially be a problem, they suddenly shift their focus again.
If you look back through the news, you’ll even find that they follow the same order each time - Gaza to the West Bank to Lebanon to Syria to Yemen to Gaza.
They got away with genocide in gaza when all eyes was on it so no there is no distraction just accelersting the attempt to steal more land because of it
It’s our focus that shifts. Zoom out.
