I enjoyed the first season of Sugar, I love noir and classic film so the endless references were great. I liked the hardboiled narration from the main character too. The extra layer, as you put it, felt completely unnecessary so we will have to see where it leads in Season 2. This is definitely not a show I’d watch week to week, though. I’ll wait for the entire thing to be released before I start, as I did last time.
Ya, I completely get that. I went in blind and ended up enjoying it, but…
spoiler
it was unnecessary. It was a perfectly good show without surprising people with a heavy sci-fi element. I was extremely surprised they introduced the twist so late in the season (end of episode 6). Very risky, a bit of a bait and switch. In fact, even now if you go to the main Sugar IMDB page it makes no obvious mentions of the twist, or its sci-fi layer. Kinda weird.
