If you think about it this is the end-result of market disruptor business models the tech industry loves. First it was things like Taxi companies. Tech comes in with Uber and “disrupts” the market killing all the taxi companies off and forcing their employees onto their apps.

Well, that’s what AI is doing. AI’s model is to disrupt the labour industry, replacing labour and then forcing all of these companies to pay it.

Except unlike all the other disruptor business models they can’t enshittify this one to make it profitable. So they can only raise prices.

  • At first I thought they were going to force my partner from their job to replace them with AI but now i’m thinking they’re forcing them from their job so they can email them in their new less paid position like “we’re confused please tell us what to do 😔”

People talk about how AI is killing SaaS when really SaaS is killing SaaS by actively seeking and then exploiting vendor lock-in as a means of scalping profit, and AI is just another SaaS just a spectacularly unprofitable one.

can you imagine if workers could invoice employers the way tech companies negotiate and enforce license agreements with organizations?

getting hired by a place means the company signs some 30 page tiny print contract written by a team of shark lawyers. after a set period, you invoice them for whatever the fuck, cost plus overages and fees out the ass, and if they don’t pay, you hold all completed work product hostage and take them into arbitration courts you control to force payment plus punitive damages.

and, if you ever fuck up on the job, you can just blame the organization for not deploying you correctly.

the bosses couldn’t see that human labor is always a bargain under capitalism. and all mass layoffs do is piss off landlords, car dealership owners, insurance companies, and debt brokers. because AI doesn’t divert 80% of their “pay” right back into the hands of those formations on payday.

Just like substance traffickers. Get 'em hooked, degrade the product, up the cost.
