  • Just like there are reasons to hate the US and the EU, thank you. What is your reason? Your government made you afraid of a Ukrainian civil war that affected mostly people who are ethnically Russian?

The US just attacked the country I am from for no reason and killed almost 10k innocent people and threatens to invade the country I live in. You have no moral standing.

  • Yeah, from my perspective as someone who lives in a region that the US regularly threatens to invade because of drug dealers that come from and sell to the USA, I don’t see any real difference between the US or Russian governments either in terms of sanity, corruption, authoritarian tendency, or violence projection. I also believe that if the Russians have so many “bot farms” than the US probably has double the amount.

  • I smoked every day from when I was around 16 until I was 43, usually multiple times a day, most mornings. I smoked all the way thru law school. I smoked weed thru my career. I noticed my blood pressure was going up even though I eat a healthy diet and exercise and figured it has to be smoking so I stopped one day 2 years ago and never touched it again. I didn’t experience weed withdrawal or feel any dependency, I felt like stopping and I just did. I suspect the people who have these experiences have deeper underlying issues that they would experience dependency and withdrawal from any of their maladaptive habits be it extreme sports, shopping or even jerkin it.

  • The problem is that Lemmy is trying to be Reddit instead of being something better. Reddit’s model was always flawed: a central feed of endless content where the community is secondary to the algorithm and the upvote chase. That model rewards outrage, spam, and bot farms because those things generate engagement.

The old forums worked differently. A forum was a place you went to for a specific topic or community. The content and the discussion lived together. You knew the regulars. Moderation was local and accountable. There was no algorithm shoving rage bait into your feed because there was no feed in the modern sense.

Lemmy instances should be built like those old forums. Each instance should feel like a real site with its own culture and purpose, not just a node in a Reddit clone. The posts and the community should be the reason people stay, not a firehose of engagement bait.

Splitting the forums away from the content sites was the mistake. We need to put them back together.

  • White Americans do have class consciousness.

It is just that their class is that of white settler colonial petite bourgeoisie. The immigrated to the US to steal land from indigenous people and resist the proletarianization of the Europeans.

The reason that there won’t ever be a leftist revolution in the US is that white Americans are not part of the proletariat class and will break their solidarity with the proletariat as soon as their empire dangles status or welfare to pacify them like medicare. White Americans are more than happy to maintain the empire, they are not upset about empire, they are upset at their reducing spoils.
