I definitely didn’t understand most of it then as a kid, but I feel like it opened a doorway that shaped who I am today. That was also in the 90s when US society wasn’t yet destitute for working class families.

My parents were antiwar and liberal af. My mom once told me as a kid that if the draft happened, they’d move me to Canada. So I was radicalized pretty early on about imperialism (in the most rudimentary sense—I was a kid after all).
The drawings weren’t great either lol. I still have them somewhere.
I was drawing pictures making fun of George Bush Sr. in 7th grade. I’ve felt bad about this place for uhhhh… a while.
Best advice I can give is eat as many vegetables as you can and skip this crap.

I look back now and remember how rewarding it was when that DivX file finally finished. “Hell yeah, movie time!”
Fuck all seeing as they live like 9,500 miles away from the US.

Okay, let’s say he stole the election just for the sake of an exercise. There are a metric fuckton of regime change examples where the US meddled with the elections of other countries for their own gain. Is Venezuela now the magical example where the US government did it simply out of the goodness of their hearts? Or is this just a convenient scenario where Maduro needed to go and the US just happened to be the ones to do it and that’s somehow totally cool? I mean, fuck the approval of Congress, international law, etc. amirite?
Venezuela’s issues and elections are for Venezuelans to decide, not parasitic imperialist scum. The mental gymnastics to support this one are on an Olympic level of stupid.
I think part of it is that those supposed leftists don’t categorize all of those capitalists the same way. It’s like they view billionaire CEOs and landlords as different groups, when the reality is that they fall into the same capitalist bucket. So landlords being stripped of their hoarded properties so that everyone can have a home, is not viewed by them in the same critical light as a CEO that hoards wealth and exploits the working class.
I don’t have anything solid to back this up. It’s just my general observation. It all boils down to class consciousness and decoupling oneself from propaganda.
I’d also mistake this for Twitter. I’ve never seen so many abhorrent people flock to one place en masse like that.
Comes to the .ml memes community from .world and complains about political memes lmao.
No one is forcing you to read these posts. You can shape Lemmy to be whatever you want. You want right wing memes, so basically X or 4chan.
Mad because the world repeatedly dunks on your dollar store hero.
My wife and I have a friend that’s an introvert like we are. Sometimes he’ll come over and we might play a bunch of Mario Party and Mario Kart, but other times we will all play separately on our handhelds or laptops and chill while something plays on YouTube. Sublime. Don’t need to constantly have a conversation going and there’s no drinking involved.

You can see a mix of escapism and “how do I fast track as much money as possible?”

Ahh this is awesome. Funny enough, before I was a web dev, I was a graphic artist. Showing my age as well, my first version of Photoshop was 5 and I learned how to edit on old PowerMacs in high school. In the early 2000s I was on a forum with a similar group of folks. I think I was the only one with formal training, so I’d design forum signatures for everyone, as well as show people how to do their own graphics (as well as where to ahem acquire the software to do so).
I got into IRC and all of those tools late in life, but forums were fun back in the day.
I always wanted to checkout Siggraph but never got the chance.

I used to have a small crew that I would play Left For Dead 1 and 2 on Xbox with. We would all get on mics and get drunk and/or high the whole time. When random people hopped in to play humans vs zombies matches, we would hype them and welcome them. Always tried to be the group that didn’t deter players or talk shit. Had a lot of fun sessions that would go to 3 or 4 AM. I haven’t seen them online in ages.
People openly bragging about being exploited has always been hilarious to me. I’ve been pushing back on bullshit employer things since my first job in my teens.
Protests that exist within the legal confines of the government you’re protesting against, are essentially just block parties. They’re a release valve.
