Just fyi for anyone not in the know:

Amongst fans of hardcore punk music, the show this screen cap is from is known as the “Denny’s Grand Slam” and is literally legendary

        That would be the one.

Anytime I post or see clips of the small hardcore shows that happen at the pizzeria near me, the comments are always full of “whoa Denny’s Grand Slam energy!”

Wow, never heard of this. I watched the video and now I really want to know more. Is this considered legendary because it ended up being better than it had any right to be? That was the vibe I got. I went in expecting it to just be “lol Denny’s”, but it felt like more than that. I’m just curious about the legacy here.

I agree with everything @Trampampoline said but will add that frankly “What the fuck’s up, Denny’s?” is just such a hilariously surreal statement in the context of the music that it was just instantly meme gold.

And if you liked that, check out Live Without’s album; it’s not revelatory or anything, but it’s a totally solid, aggressive, and fun hardcore release.

As hardcore goes, they have a decent flow, dude hits his mark on his screams and doesn’t waver, drums, bass and guitarwork are good. 8/10 band in a 5/10 location. The legendary part is the meme-ness of playing that in a Denny’s, and knowing and allowing the crowd to mosh there. As a scene, it’s funny at first glance.

“What the fuck’s up, Denise? Fu** Bi**!”
(meanwhile, Denise, in the background filming in support)

I weirdly like it though. The music’s great, but the video has a Black Flag TV Party feel but without the mockery, plus added backrooms vibes.

Also nice to see angry little white boys gathering together and doing something constructive, and making new experiences, instead of being co-opted into right-wing paramilitary fascist orgs.

Oh sure, some of them did. But many were just there because of the energy and the angst, and the economy wasn’t so trashed back then to deny them a future they couldn’t settle down into

Power-frowns is the funniest way I’ve ever heard somebody refer to stank face, I love it so much
