So, I am a cishet guy with trans family and am absolutely a supporter of an individual’s right to self-determination, and I’ve thought through all of this and considered wearing such pins, but… I have a problem with the general concept of categorizing/pigeonholing people (including myself), I don’t like the idea that people should or should need to label themselves, and I’m very uncomfortable with virtue signaling (which frankly I think what you’re suggesting very much is) and with adopting the iconography of a community that I’m not necessarily a member of, which feels kind of like cultural appropriation.
Also, yeah, publicly supporting people who are targeted by discrimination is a great motivation, but the idea of wearing such a pin with the intent/hope of provoking a confrontation with another person is… very disturbing.
To offer a trans point of view.
For me every cis person wearing a pronoun pin or writing their pronouns in their mail signature or something is a win. It is normalised that way and a the pin or the pronouns in the signature are no longer a sign that the person using them is trans.
