They knew this ahead of time.

This was measured. Calculated. They had reports, meetings, they knew roughly how much outrage would be. This is all part of their plan.

The only thing that would change it is not buying PlayStation.

Which is of course the only thing gamers will not do. As soon as the next big title comes out (also in Sony’s plan), gamers will forget this and move on.

I bet they also calculated the “timed boycot” of PS+ into their plan. Can’t you just hear someone saying it. “We expect maximum of 7 days of light use due to a potential boycott, probably no more than 30% of our total base”

They’re never reversing course on it, as long as people keep buying.

I remember being so excited for PS3 given how much I loved PS2. First I had to wait over a year to get one because they produced way too few units for release, and it was sold out everywhere with scalpers trying to pass it off for $1,000+. Then, when I finally got one for a reasonable price, the game variety was just really shallow. If you aren’t into shooters and sports games there just isn’t much to find. Little Big Planet was pretty much the only game I spent a significant amount of time playing on my PS3. I never bothered with Sony after that, despite the fact that the PS2 is still far and away my favorite console of all time.

      That was the ps2.

Personally I don’t give a fuck about physical media, I don’t get the desire to have more plastic.

But I am still pissed about their twice Linux rug pull.

And basically if the hardware is locked to only one vendor at this point I simply have no need for it.

Lol I love that ultra-corporate response to people’s ire. “‘We’re Going To Cautiously Move This Forward’”

People outraged at your stupidity? NEVER REVERSE COURSE! Simply “cautiously move forward” and do whatever the frick you want. Lol

They’re a for-profit company. What they want is money, and they don’t care who they have to piss off to get it. The only time any company does what customers want is when they think they’d make less money by going against it. Sony knows it’ll make more money even after some fans leave, because most won’t. The only influence we have is our money, because the only factor that matters is money.

“People will complain, the more they complain, the more free publicity and engagement we will get, and they will never, ever do the only thing that would make us reconsider our position, which is not buying the product.”
