Mechanics, especially at dealership, get what’s called flat rate set by the how long manufactures expects a job to take.
For an oil changes, if the mfq estimates 30min, the mechanic gets paid for 30min regardless if the job takes 10 minutes or 2 hours. Guess what they’re incentivized to do? Rush jobs and finding excuses to do shit that doesn’t need to be done.
Need someone else’s help with something? That person doesn’t get paid for helping you out, so guess who doesn’t want to help/train the new guys.
How about tools? Most mechanics are expected to supply their own tool, minus the big shop wide stuff, so most spend tens of thousands of dollars over the years.
I remember a job add on the radio “guaranteed 60 hours and work on saturdays”.
Realistically I’d love “mandatory tips” to go away all together. People who are hired to a job, do their job and get paid by their employer. Anything on top is extra.
Both the mechanic and baritsa should be paid proper wages from the start.

You’re right. And the mechanic probably makes 1/4 of that. The shop doesn’t even make 150 an hour by the time you count for costs.
