The easiest fix is to just add windows to the GRUB bootloader. Unless your drive was encrypted using bitlocker, you could have just mounted it in Linux and recovered your data that way.
You absolutely didn’t have to format your windows drive to fix the missing bootloader issue. That’s like burning down your house because you lost your keys.
