Went from having all the streaming platforms to canceling everything and going back to the high seas. No regrets. Final straw was when NONE of them had a popular movie from 2013 for free. Fuck all of these companies. They want you to own nothing and pay monthly for the privilege.

I’m thinking about this, but I’ve been out of the game for 20 years, and I don’t know where to start. Can you point me in the right direction, assuming that’s allowed here?

Paying for usenet access and an indexer is worth it to me. My ISP’s only ever gotten on me about torrenting so that’s a last resort for me and it doesn’t work well with “file sharing” nodes on my VPN anyway. Nothing saturates my 500GB plan like usenet downloads.

Buy ya gotta admit their point that streaming still costs way less than cable …… assuming you’re subscribing to what you want rather than try to recreate

When I first switched, the math said I cut my costs in third while getting much better internet service and three streaming services

    • Gigabit internet + 3 * streaming service == 1/3 (200M internet + cable)

The math is still positive but much less so, however streaming services attempts to alienate me are succeeding - I only subscribe to one streaming service and am considering giving it up. Enshittify away and see what that gets you

I pay for Netflix family plan but since Netflix has decided my kids are no longer in my family when they are at their moms or at college…… I no longer need that. Clear cause and effect

I only keep them because my satellite TV provider (Italy) bundles 1Gbps internet + Netflix + paramount plus + their own channels and programmes for 40 euro a month.

    Otherwise I’d be long gone.

In Canada Bell and Rogers bundle in the streaming services but they charge more than the streaming service services themselves. Ie disney plus no commercials cost $19.40 a month. Bell wanted $24 a month for the lowest tier for $24 a month. Screw them.

We get cheaper internet by using deal from one ISP to get the other ISP to price match every couple of years.

Wtf. Scummy move on their part. It’s probably just to scam the lazy/unknowing people who won’t check.

We just threaten to not renew the contract and they renew the same price every time.

This would be an issue if I hadn’t once gain left for the seas to leave a life of inconvenience and hassle.

Streaming services really have nothing going for them again.

I’ve seen their libraries… they wanna serve me garbage and want me to pay for it? Pure insanity. Idk how so many people watch this goyslop without feeling disgusted with themselves, without thinking that their intelligence is being insulted 1. because they’re watching garbage, 2. because the executives thought we were dumb enough to enjoy it and they were sadly right, and I don’t know how they willingly give their money to these companies when a 5 minute search can give you access to everything, but whatever.

This, and ads, are things I haven’t been burdened with since my teenage years, and I don’t understand how people don’t feel some sort of moral disgust/personally insulted by participating in it. Maybe I’m too sensitive. 🤷‍♂️

Well it’s a lot easier to just get a streaming subscription for a month, watch what you want and then cancel, compared to how it was in the days of cable, that being said because there is so much fragmentation of content between different platforms you might have to juggle through multiple websites just watch what you want

which is why you’re seeing more shows releasing as weekly drips instead of season drops.

but it’s still the way to go. one at a time, one month at a time, only when you need or want ‘new’ stuff. the drips you skip over because the whole season hasn’t been posted means you’ve got more time to see if stuff gets renewed, or at least logically-concluded, before investing your own time in watching.

And piracy has never been easier. You can get a VPN to hide it from your ISP and use the computer in your house.
