I agree with Fermion, cut a small hole to let it expand. I would also crack a window, compressed mattresses can smell a bit chemically at first

Can anything bad or permanent happen if i dont cut the hole tho, like is there a critical period where it sets and doesnt expand further if its constrained unduly?

The plastic is what is keeping it compressed, its vacuum sealed. You need a way to let air in so it can decompress.

Nah it will expand as soon as it has room and the vacuum seal is broken and if the plastic limits it from expanding all the way it will finish expanding once the plastic wrapping is removed. Leaving it compressed is perfectly fine.

I’ve gone through a few different brands during some moves and never had a problem. Maybe you could put it in a room without kitties just to expand? It can take some time.

Absolutely its gonna have the room to itself. Should it be fine to:

          1. Setup frame
          2. Unroll mattress on frame
          3. Let decompress
          4. (tomorrow when protector arrives) remove plastic and apply protector + sheets etc?

            Yep sounds perfect:)

My only addition might be airing it out a bit after you remove the plastic and before you put on the sheets just for the potential smell. Sometimes this is not really a problem but sometimes they smell super chemically at first and benefit from fresh air and a fan.

2-3 hours. If you really want to limit exposure to the room, and assuming it doesn’t smell super strongly, you could probably put the cover on right away and let the mattress decompress inside of it. You want to avoid putting anything weighty on it but the covers are light. I doubt the cover will be vacuum tight but you could check a few times to make sure it has enough air to keep expanding.

I got everything setup and I left on the loose plastic covering (obviously had to remove all the tight packed plastic holding it ina roll) on but made sure it has plenty of slack and poked a hole in it like suggested

Theres a protective cover coming tomorrow so I’m just going to give it the night to decompress and ill put the cover on when it arrives. Excited, just have to pick out a duvet and cover now so I have blankets, I got the sheets today with the bed and frame so tomorrows the word and just have to get duvet/cover

If you cut a corner off the bag that should let air in while still keeping dirt/dust off. Then you can cut the rest of the bag off tomorrow.

That said, what are you worried about getting on your mattress over a single night? Do you have pets that will be checking it out?

Well, Imma close the door to keep them out for now. I just really want it to be kept “pure” in case the old bed has anything…i dunno.

My old bed is super old and gross and I dont even use it for over a year. Its all catty and yeah, i just dont want any of it getting into the new mattress, whatever that could be. Will probably throw it out soon

Tricky last mile issue on this operatio bwahaha

Also, can I unroll and let it do its thing on its frame or should it be on the floor?

Cant see how it would matter, but it would be preferable for me to get the frame setup and ready now and then deal with the mattress tomorrow if the plastic has to come off and I need the protector or if the plastic wont affect it decompressing then I can just do it all today and then take off plastic+do the protector tomorrow
