Unfortunately it’s a weak fine by design. If anyone’s read Careless People about the Facebook whistleblower, there’s a whole section on the former Irish Taoiseach explaining to Zuckerberg that anything from the DPC will just be a slap on the wrist. The Irish economy relies on big tech companies basing their European operations here so the Irish government will never issue a truly punishing fine.
