Maybe I just don’t get it, but I just don’t see there being anything vaguely inspiring of that sort of chemistry between the caracters of that specific show. Other duos in other shows, ok, but Sherlock just seemed so far from that dynamic.
To be fair, fanfic doesn’t have to be about alternate relationships. It can be just fixing the studio/corporate butchering of a working lore, or going in directions that are legit but aren’t interesting enough for movie/TV writers. And some of the fanfic crowds are VERY particular about consistency.
Fanfic for Star Wars prequels is pretty incredible. What could have been. And sure, that includes relationships.
Because some of the relationships changed around or created are between two different sexes? Sure, a lot of it is gay, but some can be a different girl that the main guy isn’t with. I was trying to be all inclusive.
I feel like you could have just rolled with the clarification that the comment referred to all fan-shipping. Alternate is a perfectly reasonable word for “non canon”
Your initial reaction was perfectly understandable, and and relief at the clarification would have been great. Just seems unfortunate to get weird about seeming put out by “alternate” as a way to say “non canon”.
Star Wars extended universe before the disney retcon is awesome. I actually found a book being discarded by the local library that’s about how Leia got the plans and I haven’t read it yet but I think she is pretty badass in it.
When I saw Star Wars for the first time, in the theater in 1977, it occurred to me that the adventure of stealing the Deathstar plans must have been pretty spectacular, but then I realized that probably everybody died getting them, and they’ll never make that movie, where the heroes die in the end.
Decades later, Rogue One came out, and told the story I wanted to see, and yeah, pretty much everyone dies in the end.
My fanfic ain’t about none o’ dat. Or at least once I wrote it, it won’t be. Not dat it is now, either.
It’s about dis git wot wants ta get really smart and he comes up with dis proppa klever plan ta get smart. But den, if he’s dat klever ta begin with, does he really need to get smart?
It’s called Grot and Supergrot. I’ll write it one day. Den yoo’ll see!
They’re talking about fanfiction, which in most fandoms predominantly include gay shipping

I’ll be honest, i got issues with that world “alternate” there.
Why not just say same sex

Yup, but think of your word choice.
Why are they alternate. Alternate to what?
The canon relationship?
so the word you’re looking for is non-canon

Can’t fix ‘Sherlock’, though.

What’s the name of the book?
Bloodline. Here’s the blurb.
Also, I was completely wrong about the premise.
It doesn’t have to be. It never isnt.
