Why does no tech journalist ever ask a single followup question.
He added that it is difficult to know when space-based data centers will be economically viable. “I don’t see this being something where it’s cheaper to do this in the next five years. I think it will take longer than that,” he said.
Yeah, they’re never going to make this. It’s going into the Google GraveyardTM for sure.
The idea of relying on Google for an infrastructure project that will require expensive and complex maintenance on a continual basis. Smdh
More likely in the Google Abortion Can Behind the Wendy’s ™
How they gonna cool them?
Open a window.
But then Microsoft would sue them.

Radiators, but also it doesn’t work so they can only run the model for short bursts of time and then have to wait for it to cool down
This will never ever be viable for painfully obvious physics reasons. The big problem with data centers even on Earth is getting rid of heat. In a near vacuum, there’s no air to try and shunt that heat off to - you’re just fucking stuck with it, only slowly radiating it out a little bit at a time.
Yeah you’d need huge ass radiators, just for heat management. It’s why the TPUs on this sat are only running for 15 minutes each time, because they start getting too hot. Besides any maintenance would be astronomically more expensive, launch costs are also very high.
Huge ass being like football fields in space, like the biggest things ever launched needing to unfold neatly and likely get a bunch of maintenance.
we really do live in the dumbest timeline.
More space junk.
Speedrunning kessler syndrome
So why are they doing this? The reasons given in the article seem so laughable compared to enormous cost of sending shit to space.
The real reason or the stated reason?
Stated reason: Endless solar! No consumption of terrestrial resources! Nimbys and zoning laws can duck our collective dicks!
Really reason: We’re doing more “growth” give us more unlimited money.
Right it’s a con
I guess it could be part of military infrastructure as well. If they are really doing large weapons in space programs.
Can’t even
anymore smhspace is big comrade
Get me a place on Tiangong (╥﹏╥) pls
They already know the answers and are complicit. They don’t want you to know.
If the laws were meant to be fair, fines would be meaningful, BoD and C-suite, politicians and media moguls would get prison under RICO and re-education and never work in industry again.
Which idea is less physically viable, this or Apple’s scrapped wireless charging fields that produced so much heat they would set your desk and phone on fire?
Nice another vaporware jobs program for failsons
