Yes. It’s a good show. The issues the movie had were the result of bad filmmaking, not something inherent to the character or IP.

Is the Nolan Batman trilogy worth watching? Even after that horrible Clooney Batman film?

    Yes. Lanterns is worth watching.

It’s a True Detective type show with a slow burn, so if that’s not your thing then maybe it’s the show for you. That being said watch the first episode, if you’re intrigued keep with it, if not then it’s not the show for you.

Lanterns is good, not great or a must see, just good. You can see the twists coming a mile away

    Here’s my take.

Yes, you should watch it. Not everyone should but you should, Don.

Here’s why. I know you’re a comic/superhero fan, and while the show has flaws, it is very good at giving a fresh look at beloved characters. It’s also a kinda fresh take on DC characters, as the vibe diverges from most of the existing stuff that’s been done. I think the closest in overall vibe was Titans. It isn’t exactly the same feel, but the pacing and attempt to show more of the personalities than the powers hits in a very similar way.

Think of it as a live action elseworlds.

Do be aware that it isn’t going to be comic canon accurate. I don’t think they intended it to be, and it’s okay guy projects to not be based in comic canon. In this case, I believe that’s part of why it works for those that enjoy it.

Secondary to all of that, the thing I’ve enjoyed most is that there’s no origin story being the center. It’s mentioned, and related, but they didn’t waste time retelling the premise that nobody really needs. That’s very refreshing for me. I prefer it when film makers of comic characters don’t waste my time with shit I can look up on Wikipedia, and get to a story. Even if said story isn’t great, or the movie kinda sucks, I’m happier than I would be with a perfect retelling of an origin story. Just give me a montage or a five minute flashback when something diverges from canon significantly, I can maintain suspension of disbelief just fine.

Hell, I think all of my favorite comic based shows and movies work that way, with the exception of some of the MCU stuff. Not all of it, I did love cap’s first movie and Iron Man despite a big chunk of both being origin stories. But in those, they had some major issues to deal with to set up the MCU as a whole, and in the case of Cap, to set up the long sleep effects for the viewer.

So, yeah, you should watch it. You might end up not finishing it, though it isn’t all out yet. But I think you’ll enjoy it based in what you’ve said about comics and related media in the past.

Edit: also, the Ryan Reynolds GL movie had some great moments, they just screwed up the plot and some of the movie side of things. Reynolds did a solid job in the role, if not the best possible. And I liked the suit.

I hate pretty much everything with super heroes. Lantern have its problems but yeah it’s kind of good, the creators said that it want a True Detectives with Lantern. It works but it have obvious super heroes tropes pit fall.

I’m a fan of the Green Lantern comics franchise and I’ve been wishing for a movie or TV series for a long-ass time. (But DC’s been extremely incompetent in movies and TV for a long-ass time.) This series is quite good. It is definitely a “Green Lantern TV series”. It’s pretty “terrestrial” for Green Lantern, at least until later in the season. but that’s not unexpected for a TV series.

All in all, yes. Worth a watch.

If you’re fine with paper-thin plot, characters who act like they’re actors playing characters, and conspiracies a child could predict, then yes. It’s not terrible. Not particularly good either.

I’m not a fan of the DCU or DC Comics in general, I prefer Marvel comics, but I like Lanterns

it’s good. wouldn’t say it’s awesome or anything but it’s a decent watch.

If there’s lack of stuff to watch, it’s OK series. It’s done like a detective story and has very little of that Green Lantern power stuff.

I wanted to like it. But both main characters are just insufferable, and not in a fun way. I quit before I got to the inevitable, tedious flashback episodes.

I’ve only gotten to the third episode, where I had to stop because that ep seemed a bit too over the top even for a superhero show (a black family in a reasonably nice-looking neighborhood regularly shooting their guns in their back yard, playing William Tell with their kid - especially at all hours of the day - in America? With no neighbors calling the cops on them? C’mon!).

Nonetheless, it’s mostly well done, and I intend to continue. Just know that some aspects will require a healthy amount of “suspension of disbelief,” even for a superhero show.

I stopped watching with that episode too but just because it was so fucking boring. Hal really carries that show and even he’s just Temu Reacher

I gave up watching shows mid production now. I wait for it to be cancelled or the final season to be done. Been burned by GoT and The Boys and Lost.

All shows that had a full run (or too long of one, even). What’re you talking about?
