A new division called Xbox XP will take the lead on “film and television, consumer products, strategic partnerships, and live experiences,” with a focus “on how people experience our franchises beyond the games themselves.”
Sigh…

Wow, so, Nintendo is winning the console war by suicide? Sony jumped off the console cliff out of nowhere, and now Xbox is eating a rat poison cake for fun.
Still standing : the indie scene, the PC gaming master race, the retrogaming scene, Nintendon’t.
I hope Valve won’t die by autoerotic asphyxia. I don’t like them THAT MUCH (like, Newel is building cunt yachts instead of funding cool studios for cool new games), but they’re still on the good side of history.
We’ll still have GOG, though.
GOG tried to kill itself with the Nazi symbols sent in emails, that they never really apologized for. They are lucky people have short memories.
The what now?

I just picked up a refurbished workstation for $200 to stream my main pc to the living room via Steam. Works like a charm 😎
It’s running Cachy OS and can play some light-weight titles by itself too.
As someone who has been around since the third console generation (NES, SMS), honestly I feel like we are living in one of the worst eras in gaming history, second only to the crash of '83 (but I wasn’t there for that so I can’t confirm).
It really sucks that Nintendo is winning the console wars. Between suing their fans for making their games better, and them being seemingly unable to release a console that can keep up with modern performance standards (The Switch 2 only has 1500 shader cores FFS; modern midrange GPUs have 10,000+!), I wish literally anyone else was on top.
I mean I’m not in this fight—my last console was the 360—and I’ve been PC exclusive since, but still, we need healthy competition or things are only going to get worse for gamers.
The Switch 2 is a handheld. I don’t get why people expect it to be on par with home platforms, it’s competition is the Steam Deck.
Yes that’s the problem! Nintendo only has a handheld option available at the moment; where’s their home console?
Also, why did they downgrade their handhelds by replacing the 3D display with a boring 2D panel? That was the 3DS’ best feature! No one else does glasses-free 3D; why get rid of your best gimmick? (God I miss 3D gaming so much, especially on PC. VR is nice but headsets are more cumbersome than glasses.)
PC gaming might be standing but it’s costing an arm and a leg to do so.
At least with PC gaming it’s possible to buy an old computer or laptop and have a massive library. It’s not like we’re restricted to the current generation, I could go and play Wasteland on my modern PC with no issue if I wanted to install a couple megabytes.
Also if you’ve got old hardware you can still play the new games, just at much lower settings.
If you’ve got a PS4 you can’t just play PS5 games at lower settings.
Well when I was saying older my brain was thinking decades older like 06, because I’m a Redneck with access to Linux and will see how well it works. Usually it’s surprisingly functional even if I do have to get some weird ass RAM to do mild upgrades, you’d be surprised how many things used to run on 1GB.
Adding on this, all those old multiplayer games you think nobody plays anymore? Yeah, there’s a Discord somewhere just for people to organize play times for that game. For example, the whole arena FPS subgenre still lives on that way, all the way back to Doom and Quake. You can play that old game you love again. Maybe not the instant you try, but you can. You haven’t played for the last time if you’re willing to go look and ask around.
You’re right, these past few years have been awful to acquire a PC
There’s no sense in selling a loss-leader computer/console when the losses are soooooo massive these days because of component shortages caused by billionaire hoarders.
