I’ve tried to spend my way to happiness. I’m an enthusiastic beginner to any hobby and have flamed out on watches (twice), sneakers, car modding, PC building/gaming, photography, VR (3 different headsets), handheld/retro gaming, home theater, headphones/IEMs, Magic: the Gathering, KPOP, and travel. Car modding, PC building, and collecting watches, sneakers, and headphones fed my need for attention when I’d post pictures on reddit, and the rest were failed attempts to recapture the joy of my 20s when I shared vacations, gaming, TV/movies, and music with my friends. I’m turning 50 next year and took the last week of my 40s off and am struggling to figure out what to do with it. It’s not like I have unlimited funds but any reasonable travel destination is in reach but all I really want to do with my spare time is get high, smoke cigars, and read light novels or watch anime and spending money to do that somewhere far away seems dumb even to me. If I had more money I do not think it would make planning any easier.

Someone I very tangentially knew (my friend’s wife’s friend) won something like $5 million on a lottery. They made a Facebook post that just said “I know you all know” and then deleted all their socials and was never heard from again lol.

Some of the first things I did with my first camgirl paycheck this summer included getting professional dental care (a cleaning and braces), getting a full-body checkup, starting to eat a healthy and varied diet, and moving out into my own place.

When I had disposable income, sometimes (less than once every few months) I’d buy some kind of lottery ticket/scratch off. Maybe I could afford a house that way.
