A source familiar with the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books confirmed that the Harry Potter series will rank alongside the final season of Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, as production accounts provided a clue about the show’s budget.

Harry Potter is being produced in the UK through the special purpose vehicle company Plum Jam Productions, which recently filed earnings for 2025 on the UK’s Companies House.

Taking Plum Jam Productions’ earnings as a rough guide, Harry Potter’s first season could average out at around £18.8M ($25.2M) per episode. Though an estimate, it would mean that Potter comfortably sits in the same big-budget bracket as the final season of Game of Thrones, which was widely reported to have cost $15M an episode.

A source familiar with the Harry Potter series said the cost of making the drama is front-loaded because the lavish sets built at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden should serve all seven seasons. This will likely mean that the average budget of future Harry Potter episodes will drop.

Boycott it. Don’t give money to J K Rowling, one of the most poisonous people in the UK.

Yeah she’s getting money either way so I’m hoping for the worst so they’ll at least see her as not profitable

Maybe I am just out of touch but I dunno who the audience is for this besides millennials who are nearing 40. Did Gen Z or younger even get into Harry Potter?

Source: a millennial who is approaching 40.

i dunno. my gen z daughter who enjoyed it when she was younger got rid of her books and refuses to engage with it.

i do have a friend i still need to have a talk with. she’s gen-x and loves hp. she and her wife also seem extremely disengaged from the world in general so i don’t think she’s aware of joanna’s genocidal tendencies.

I work at a bookstore, and yeah, parents still buy them for their kids. I think the poularity is slowing down, but the books are still certain to sell. Either way I dont think it’s going to be kids watching the show for the most part.

Not even going to pirate this rubbish.

Everyone involved is now complicit in giving the queen of the TERFs money and drawing more attention to a, quite frankly dull franchise.
