Netflix Inc. has seen a decline in user engagement, with customers opening the app less frequently than before. Although total watch time increased due to new subscribers, individual viewing has decreased significantly during this period. The company is facing challenges such as increased competition and fewer hit productions impacting viewer attraction. In response to these issues, Netflix has made leadership changes to strengthen its content strategy and overall business model.
Having a filter for shows by language spoken is something streaming sites should have but I don’t see a reason the default settings should hide shows that still have subtitles in your native language.
I strongly disagree that shows in languages you don’t speak are “a waste of a potentially good show”. If you read slowly or dislike reading when watching shows I understand why you have less interest in them but if you can keep up with the subtitles I don’t think you should completly disregard them.
Being deaf, I have to use subtitles anyways, so about half of what I watch on Netflix is non-English, and it’s been great
I read really fast, but if I want to read I grab a book (which I do often, I read 100-200 books a year). When I want to watch a movie or show I’m looking for a different experience. Subtitles are annoying because they cover part of the picture, they often spoil jokes and they distract from the actual movie. Dubbed is even worse.
