It is crazy to me how Hello Games managed to turn No Man’s Sky around. Going from day one’s basically one hour of content to now is pretty respectable.

Its for that reason only that I am looking forward to Light No Fire.

I actually preferred the day 1 version tbh. They almost immediately nerfed the generation algo to the point of being useless. You used to get so many weird ass creatures and planets, genuinely never being able to guess what you’d see next…now it’s just like a set of planet types and then they’ll have all have pretty samey animals to the point of it basically just feeling like survival Mass Effect without the narrative.

Perhaps the randomness of the world generation was a bit better, but literally everything was worse. There were many times that I was like “okay, time to try that thing Sean Murray said I could do” and I just… couldn’t do it. Not that I didn’t try, I mean the functionality literally wasn’t in the game.

Multiplayer, for example. Ship customization was another one. Things to do in the ship in space were extremely limited, etc. The planets were basically just walking and mining simulator.

I definitely prefer the current version, even if it means worse RNG for wildlife and planet generation.

The original exploration was more fun to me than the whole sum of what the game became. I have other games that I prefer over NMS for everything else it has to offer but to this day nothing else has ever offered as much insane shit to see as OG NMS. I still praise the studio, still plan on buying the new game, and am not shitting on anybody for enjoying the game but I just preferred the initial release.

NMS has been one of the funniest games for discussion for me though, everybody has always been pissed off about my opinions on it…I remember getting down voted to hell on reddit and shit talked by all the college homies for saying it wouldn’t be what people expect and that it would need years of updates…then I was made fun of and called a shill for enjoying the game at release, and now I’m still getting dogged on for saying the generator gave far more variety on day 1.

Mobile can mean tablets, too, most of which have much bigger screens than the Steam Deck.

Except ‘mobile’ here only refers to iPhones and iPads, so it’s just a couple of devices.

Oh wow, that game on desktop was already literally addictive to me, on mobile it’s going to be crack.

Edit: side note - why Apple only…

probably being able to go from star system to star system without having to open and use the stellar map and click on the star you want to warp to

      edit: yeah

The studio has also added what it calls “seamless warping”, meaning you can just lock onto the brightest star in the sky and travel straight there without visiting the galactic map.

The nearest stars shows different when flying around, and you can just aim at them and warp without going to the map. It is only to the nearest stars, so the sky is not filled with warp icons.
