Here’s the thing, the company that got rid of me is ultimately reasonable. If they ask for me to return, I’ll have some nice negotiation chips to bargin with.
I thought most of us figured out loyalty to any specific corporate employer was a dead end back in 2008 (or even 2001 for some of us). The better path is assume the job won’t always be there, bank what savings you can to weather the inevitable gap of unemployment (hoping you never have to use it), and take advantage of every training or learning opportunities at your current employer to improve your skills to take the next step up the ladder with your next employer.
I’d absolutely go back to an old employer if the price was right, and in fact, I have. It lasts as long as it lasts, just like any other job whether you’ve been employed there before or not.
I’d recommend editing your post and removing that last sentence. If for whatever reason you would follow through with that in the future, and they’re able to connect your real name to that post, then they might have grounds for civil penalties against you.
Anyone who goes back to a company (without having an immediate exit strategy at least) that lays them off is an idiot.
Now that being said, I understand that you might “need the job” but when it comes down to it you better go back having one foot out the door.
Fuck these companies.

I’ve already explained that any signature on any post-employment NDA will cost them a year’s salary…
If I get laid off, I know enough about the faults in their product to kill all future sales…

If I release company secrets I’m liable regardless…they’ll sue me to death…
At that point, I won’t care…
