Not without effort. When there was a big jump in Lemmy users in the past, it was due to recruiting efforts by @dessalines@lemmy.ml, commenting on Reddit posts about Reddit closing down their free API. Historically, instances users are directed towards get a huge influx of new users, that’s why lemmy.world has the most users by far.
Servers that exist mainly to host or spread the kinds of content below are removed from the directory and from every total on the site. Decisions are informed by community reports, documented violations and the health of the network as a whole. Banned servers contribute nothing to the statistics.
And it lists a bunch of things but I know what it had to have been, the 21st century faithful liberal anti-free speech exception they love deploying:
Misinformation
Servers dedicated mainly to spreading:
Deliberate misinformation campaigns
Harmful medical misinformation
Election interference content
Conspiracy theories that target vulnerable communities
Content that undermines civic processes
I would guess they classify all of us as in violation of all but the medical misinfo. And who decides what’s misinfo? Why the liberal institutions like the CIA and EU (CIA in a Euro flag). There’s something hilarious about banning the flagship instance run by the developers of this particular federation software but it was always inevitable that liberals would close ranks and do all they could to marginalize and silence communists even on their own software.
We were top by all metrics until basically this year. That’s why a lot of these guys scrub us from the metrics. They can’t stand that the most active lemmy community is a bunch of trans commies.
Yeah it wasn’t going to hold forever, reddit.world is almost 7x larger than hexbear. It was going to overtake comments eventually.
The problem of .world being so bloated is going to be a serious problem in a few years if other lefty communities don’t defederate. After a certain point it stops being a way to draw in new users and becomes a drag on the community. The dialectic is in motion. 😔

(side note: why does FediDB not list hexbear.net, lemmy.ml, or lemmygrad.ml?)
Whoa. From what I can tell, the fedidb source code doesn’t include its included or removed instances.
Let’s check their moderation policy: https://fedidb.com/platform/moderation

Pixelfed, Loops, and FediDB are all projects of the liberal known as Daniel “dansup” Supernault.
Without that liberalism, lemmy.ml is #2, hexbear.net is #4, and lemmygrad.ml is #9
Now sort by number of comments / posts
Looking at https://hexbear.net/nodeinfo/2.1 etc,
IIRC we were top by posts/comments for years
:beanis-shining:
I love posting
