Both fediverse softwares that support user reviews for books, both have RSS support natively (no Piefed/Misskey bridge needed), and some comments also seem discontent with Amazon’s mismanagement overall.
NeoDB FTW
Theres an effort to get CrossPoint and BookWyrm to work together. The more interop will make people want to use both.
BookWyrm has an issue where its REST API isnt all that well documented. Theres some work being done (and it is just Django) but theres some huge holes in the current software.
I use bookwyrm all the time, its great.
@Auster@thebrainbin.org Bookwyrm and NeoDB are both awesome alternatives to GoodReads, with NeoDB offering far more than just books.
The only downside is that Kindle directly integrates with GoodReads, I'm not sure there's been any independent efforts to integrate alternatives into e-readers.
Not Kindle, but StoryGraph now has a Kobo Account integration
I don’t think Bookwyrm has an API, so it’s impossible to integrate it into anything.
Maybe the protocol itself could be used as the API? Set up a local instance, similar to what Holos does, and pulls data only from instances reporting to be powered by BookWyrm (or NeoDB).
I’ll check these out too, thanks.
comment violates rule: Stay on-topic to the Goodreads app/website - Book recommendations, discussion about Goodreads alternatives or proposed improvements to Goodreads, surveys/school projects, and general discussion of reading as a hobby are all considered off-topic.
I don’t think the mods there are going to let you.
Yet mentions of Hardcover survived
If people are asking, it’s worth the 12 seconds it takes to post a link to a BW instance. They should just make sure it’s to a general instance, and not to a server selection page.
Hadn’t seem. RIP.
Well, made a post elsewhere. Don’t think anyone follows me there, but hopefully serves at least as a bump.
Maybe try Storygraph
Yes! Also the December release of Catodon will support both Bookwyrm and NeoDB reviews. I know that people are looking for a suggestion for now, but we need a month (although it will come sooner in develop, in November).
Probably a good idea indeed!
Skimming through it, it doesn’t seem to be as accessible for reviews though.
Hardcover seems decent enough.
