Nintendo is nowhere near the worst thing in the video game industry right now. Not saying I agree with everything they do, but compared to pretty much every other AAA? Their games actually feel like complete products on day 1, they don’t fire half their employees as soon as a game releases, they don’t try to get kids hooked on gambling, and they don’t fund genocide.
Was about to write about this too. Nintendo can and should definitely be criticized where appropriate, but I’m so annoyed by people who feel the need to vent their hate under every post mentioning Nintendo in any way.
Something that also never gets mentioned is that while much of the games industry treats their employees like garbage, Nintendo is considered one of the best employers in Japan. They treat their employees right, offering good work-life balance, job security, benefits etc, in a culture where that’s definitely not the norm.
That one bothers me so much! I don’t give a shit about the copyright on material, I care that my county has been in water rationing for 3 years and a strong wind in a state known for wind can take the power down for a week. We can’t figure out basic community utilities and you’re expecting us to be ok with server farm bigger than my entire neighborhood that uses exponential more of those crippled utilities? Fuck off.
