He can’t run for president but he’s already running the country.

Unfortunately, I think we’ll get a Progressive male president before we get a female anything president.

I still hear people talk about how they wouldn’t want a woman president, and some of these people are democratic women.

fucking …alabama… just voted for a trans canidate, the idea clinton or harris lost because they were woman is nonsense. they lost because they were very obviously establishment stooges. one a career parasite most well-known for not having enough self-respect to leave a cheater, and the other flipflopped on all their big rallying cries within 24hrs. it was immediately noticable when harris was brought back on script…not too mention not having a primary and running a fucking Cheney endorsement at the DNC.

they lost cause they sucked ass and swallow. for the average person, if you have to choose between a corrupt pos smart enough to hide it and someone whose so goddamn proud of their corroption they brag about it…the latter is a known factor and therefor easier to work around.

FDR. There are a few presidents who were progressive for their time but FDR was progressive by today’s standards

Agreed. The misogyny still runs deep in this country, usually expressed as, “She’s just not a good candidate!”

The bar is on the floor, for boys. We already know what kinds of men can and have been good enough to get elected. It takes Penis to spell President, apparently, and it doesn’t matter that it’s out of order.

You used to say a muslim senator will never win. You used to say a black person will never win. It is pure ba to hide failures

I never said those things. I did say, “Well damn, my party would rather run a black man than a woman,” and twice I’ve said, “Well damn, our country would rather elect a criminal than a woman.”

Make that three times. I was around for Shirley Chisolm’s run (but not old enough to vote) and like everyone else I knew a black woman couldn’t get nominated in 1972. The Dems ran George McGovern instead, and Richard Nixon won in a landslide.

Like I said, for the boys the bar is on the floor.

I mean I don’t know how many potential Democratic voters would prefer if the candidate wasn’t a woman, but if the last decade or so is any indication the number that would find it strongly objectionable is indistinguishable from zero. There’s no evidence at all that this is a significant concern; everybody seems willing to elect women when it comes down to it, it doesn’t show up in polls and the two examples that come up in this contexts both had much bigger problems than their genders.

There’s a belief that women leaders will lead to wimpy men because they don’t see that men too can be leaders. I want a good blend. We have plenty of people, who can be plenty of role models.

We have spycraft now anyways so we’re building shady role models, cunning rather than machismo seems a thing. Or am I speaking from the James Bond times that have calmed?

I don’t think AOC would do it. She absolutely could, but my impression of her is that she’d rather take the safe path and run for Chuck’s seat.

We absolutely need a real progressive candidate to win the democratic nomination in 2028 in order to prevent another fascist regime in the near future.

But I also do not want to waste an AOC presidential run before she’s successfully built momentum in the senate.

We are in dire need of more prominent progressives.

For a young politician, running for president is somewhat a dead end. What do you do for the rest of your life?

Damn being president is like flipping burgers now.

More seriously, whatever Obama is doing. A former president AOC would have a lot of influence I think. That said I can see the lack of appeal.
