the US and European Union still import billions of euros worth of Russian energy and commodities, ranging from liquefied natural gas to enriched uranium.
India this week lashed out at what it called Western double standards, after facing renewed threats from US President Donald Trump over its surging purchases of Russian crude oil.
The EU, however, continues to purchase oil, nickel, natural gas, fertiliser, iron and steel from Russia
I do know some goods are being imported, moreover some EU countries like Hungary, still have contacts with Russia. But there has been a very strong decline overall (* Imports of goods from Russia into the first quarter of 2025 totalled €8.74 billion (S$13 billion), down from €30.58 billion four years earlier)
Also I do know that via third countries, purposely and or accidentally, there are im & exports.
And, also from the article,
“In contrast to Europe, India’s imports from Moscow surged to US$65.7 billion (S$85 billion) in 2024, from US$8.25 billion in 2021, data from India’s Commerce Ministry website showed.”
It does amaze me to think were russia would be if it had settled into a stable democracy. It would be such a global powerhouse.
It’s a bit misleading to say we “maintain” billions in imports, when imports from Russia has declined 86% in three years, despite initial heavy dependency on Russian energy supplies.
Imports from Russia fell by 86 per cent from the first quarter of 2022 through the first quarter of 2025, according to the latest data from Eurostat.
This is despite nations in EU like Hungary and Slovakia that have sabotaged and slowed the efforts against Russia. I have no idea what twisted mindset makes those countries support the Russian illegal invasion and war crimes, but they do?
But to make a headline that implies EU isn’t doing enough is outrageous considering the massive efforts.3 years? We were always at war with Eurasia
